Why would you ever pick the Jagdtiger over the KT?

I'm pretty new to the game and OKW, but I can't see a good reason to get the Jagdtiger ever as long as you have the KT at your disposal.

The only pros vs the KT I can see are:
- longer range, though you need forward spotters to use it
- cheaper and doesn't need teching
- has a barrage ability
- possibly better pen / damage (?)

While the list of cons:
- extremely sluggish, even with the engine upgrade
- no turret
- no MG upgrade
- can't really hurt infantry
- gets stunned by any penetrating shot unless it's vet 5

I haven't played much with it but it seems like a very awkward and unflexible unit. You trade all the flexibility of the KT for increased firepower which I'm not really sure is worth it since most allied tanks are no match for the KT anyway.

Thoughts?

the jagdtiger is a long range "tank destroyer" similar to the elephunt for the ostheer or even the SU-85 for the russians, these vehicles are made to simply fire at range on the enemy tanks, they arent meant to move fast and only have one purpose which is to destroy enemy vehicles, they are all basically giant AT guns which are immune to infantry fire, but essentially there range is the key factor. While your infantry move ahead they will engage enemy armour and spot for your tank destroyers, meaning you can kill enemy tanks safely without the possibility of your own being destroyed. If you prefer to move with your infantry supported by tanks then use the KT, but in an open area these long range tank destroyers like jagdtiger excell greatly.

Jagdtiger is an insane tank destroyer. Its really good in 2vs2 and above. I prefer it over a KT on some maps. Jagdtiger shines when you protect its flanks well and have plenty of sight to rek allied tanks from the fog of war. Not so potent on urban maps.

I can see it being good indeed in team games now that I think about it. In 1v1 not so much due to how easily you can get flanked.

It's more of a teamgame unit. It can work in 1v1 but only on a limited selection of maps such as Langreskaya.

The king tiger is kinda meh, too slow to destroy tanks without them reversing to escape. Jagdtiger though, :hansGASM:

It is pretty map dependent though, and really only good in 2v2+ where there is less chance of getting flanked. If you get it on minsk pocket it's pretty much gg, and it is also the mega counter to any soviet tank destroyers + ISU-152 since they have no turret.

Use jagdtiger in maps such as Minsk Pocket, Crossing in the Woods, and Langreskaya for 1v1. On 2v2 and above you have more map options.

But that's why you got Sturmtiger, that thing is hilarious in cramped 2v2+ map like Ettelbruck.

IMO JT is the hard counter against the Allied Tank Destroyers such as Firefly,SU-85 not Jackson because it's a mobile tank destroyer but in 2v2+ it's a situational unit to get, not that anybody is trying to rush for a JT or anything, I personally don't get it most of the time because i don't get maps like Minsk Pocket or Langres but then again it's SITUATIONAL.

Lol, no not really. The game sensors the p word (also known as the female reproductive genitalia).
One random in 4v4 land called it that, and it stuck for me.

I have a great response to that, but I'll need to PM it because it's not appropriate for public chat.

I agree sturmtiger is sick on urban maps. KT is a safer choice though. The thing is that the Sturmtiger is guaranteed fun, even on open maps. Its a little bit absent on the field compared to KT and Jagdtiger due to shoot, retreat and reload mechanism, but can be so devastating when it hits your target.

u save all resurce for risk! ,alies TD and AT can easilly destroy kt at range specially when marked it,so u need jt to deal with them. sturm is good in urban but reload time is problem or when enemy spam medium tank they can easilly flank sturm. make sturm combined+jp or panther.

How do you risk such an expensive unit in urban areas?
Roads are my favourite place to lay mines and demos, or a mine and demo together especially cross roads.
Plus you never know what's around the next building... could be 2 jacksons waiting to tear you a new arsehole or 3

One Jagdtiger can severely change the flow of a 2vs2 game in wide, open maps like Rails and Metals giving you an huge advantage over Allied armour, especially in terms of range. Provided you cover it appropriately by setting up defensive Raktenwerfer, AT-nading charging mediums with your Panzerfusiliers and clearing hostile AT-guns through the assistance of your team mate nothing can harm it gravely. Requesting coverage from your partner is recommendable as well as producing one PIV for emergency cases before calling in the beast. If one in your team fields a Searchlight or researches doctrinal scopes then have fun shooting!

Apart from those obvious cases in 2vs2 and above I think the Jagdtiger has very limited use in 1vs1, only in maps like Langreskaya as mentioned above. Even there I would rather choose the KT since it deals decent damage to infantry either contrary to the JT. Everything armour related can be countered by KT as well. The only case where I would speculate about going for JT is against emplacements (JT outranges 17-Pounder as far as I know).
