With the ESL Go4Coh2 series finished, it’s time for new round of statistics.

I checked out the replays and twitch-casts for all EU & NA cups for all BO3 rounds (which means quarterfinals and up as well as the 2 qualifier rounds for the EU March monthly). I did omit the RUKAcl party final of EU#13, though.

The total number of games that went into this is 464. There are several games missing because no replays have been uploaded anywhere and games either have not been casted live or casts are no longer available. I’d guesstimate that roughly 35% of the NA and 13% of the EU games are lost (about 25% in total).

Let’s start with faction selection and win percentages for all ESL cups:

FactionPickedPicked (%)WonWon (%)
okwokw17438%8247%
sovietssoviets26557%14254%
usfusf10623%5855%
ostheerostheer29063%14149%
britsbrits9320%4144%
Sum:928100%46450%

Next table includes only games after the most recent patch (which are cups #11-#13 and the February and March monthlies):

FactionPickedPicked (%)WonWon (%)
okwokw6141%3151%
sovietssoviets9363%5054%
usfusf2718%1244%
ostheerostheer8759%4552%
britsbrits2818%1036%
Sum296100%14850%

Results for each matchup (all cups):

MatchupPlayedAllied wonAllies won (%)
sovietssoviets vs. ostheerostheer1598453%
sovietssoviets vs. okwokw1065855%
usfusf vs. ostheerostheer673654%
usfusf vs. okwokw392256%
britsbrits vs. ostheerostheer642945%
britsbrits vs. okwokw291241%
Sum46424252%

Results for matchups (Feb/#11/#12/#13/Mar):

MatchupPlayedAllied wonAllies won (%)
sovietssoviets vs. ostheerostheer532955%
sovietssoviets vs. okwokw402153%
usfusf vs. ostheerostheer16744%
usfusf vs. okwokw11545%
britsbrits vs. ostheerostheer18633%
britsbrits vs. okwokw10440%
Sum1477249%

You'd have to take in particular the percentages for USF and UKF matchups with a grain of salt, due to the comparably small sample size.

Then I subdivided the cups into (roughly) 2 week intervals, containing 2x2 or 3x2 cups, with 52-82 games each. The dashed, black lines in the figures below indicate when a patch/hotfix was applied.
  • Between #2 and #3: Mostly a buff to the UKF AEC
  • Between #8 and #9: Various changes, just to mention a few: Nerf to Calliope and Panzerwerfer, buff to 222, change of AEC, new UKF commanders, nerfs to abilities of older UKF commanders; after some hotfixes basically no veterancy for late-game infantry squads
  • Between #10 and Feb monthly: Veterancy working again (?)

Factions picked:

Win percentage for each faction:

For #1/#2 there is one UKF game on record, which RoyalHants won vs. Alucard (yay, 100% win rate!). I did omit that point here...

Over the next week or so, I plan to post two more parts, one looking at maps and the other at doctrines.

Edit: Update adding the results reported by Redxwings

Magnificent job on gathering all these stats.
I cannot imagine the time you spend on creating this, so kudos to you for your hard work.

Very cool post thanks. Ive read several times that allies is stronger than axis in general. This information backs that statement up(at least for the top players). OKW seems to have benefited strongly from the supposed vet fix, but dropped afterwards (last graph) anyone has theories why?

Take it with a grain of salt. You cant pick okw against soviets since they have huge issues (mostly maxims) against them, that's why ostheer got picked alot because the can counter the maxim cheese more likely.

Personally, I dont 1vs1 OKW anymore because I feel like I dont have the right units to hold ground on my own. Also because I rarely play alone. Used to get quick luchs when playing against maxim spam though.

Maxims into double guards nullifys the luchs by alot from experience, even a single guard does heavy damage against it.
Its just a very Bad matchup for okw

Yeah it is a shame Paul didn't upload his replays that must have been a big % of the missing ones

Yes, but he's not the only one; the list of people in NA that did upload replays consistently is actually pretty short...

Unfortunately I started with this mid February. It took me a while to figure out how to check out older twitch-casts , and by that time the very early casts where not available anymore.

Low point is NA#2 for which I could only find stats for 9 out of 23 games, and the info on the final is actually from Yukiko's report. The final for NA #3 is lost as well.

EU is better in terms of available replays (although I don't recall seeing on uploaded e.g. by Jove). And it also does help that later EU cups were covered by multiple casters.

Brilliant job really, have you considered the idea of joining our staff at COH2.ORG and make these statistics threads real newsposts? I am sure the community would love them as well as Relic (Relic especially loves this kind of infographs with statistics :P )

Games were plqyed in a very small number of maps probably because of both players vetoed different maps which isnt possible in automatch. All games were played on 3 maps most games played on 1 map - ferma.
So like 70% of this is the stats for 1 map. And this game is map dependant.
If there were open maps in the pool then any one would be picling oh with sniper and win 99% of the games.

These stats doesnt reflect game balance in general, since in automatch you dont have the privelege to play on ferma every game.

It should be a requirement in the rules that replays have to be uploaded.

There's all sorts of reasons for this: arbitration, casting, historical log etc.

An non-doctrinal mg34 would help the OKW greatly. Put it in T1 and move AAHT to t2. To give the real mechanised feeling.

Great job on gathering these insane amount of info
