I've been wondering this for a while now.. the US has the ability to self repair vehicles.
The stuart has a vehicle crew with vet 3 and the sherman/other tanks have vet 0.
Is it viable to put in RE inside a tank and take the vehicle crew with you? or should you always put in the vehicle crew it originally belongs to? Does the crew matter how the tank performs?

Yes, you can put RE in a vehicle.
Yes, crew veterancy matters.
Yes, you can take a high vet Stuart crew and replace the Sherman/Other tank crew with them.

Veterancy is persistent with the crew. This means that you can, for example. Take the stuart crew out and pop them into your first sherman to preserve some vet.
The vehicle crew itself isn't a great combat unit, so I can't really see the virtue of swapping them with RE's.
However you will notice that units that crew tanks vet much quicker than they would if they were fighting on foot.
You can use a jackson for instance crewed with rifles as a "vet farm" to vet the infantry quickly. However, imo the extra micro required isn't really worth it.
