How to use the Artilllery Field Officer correct?

Well, I fired him up and took a spin with him in automatch a bit to refresh what he is like these days.
1) He has in the past been a good like combat unit in is own right, though the stats wizards will confirm that
2) Smoke drop, occasionally handy
3) Infantry buff. For when you really need a buff to push or hold
4) Artillery Barrage, because the only thing more fun than launching 3 Panzerwerfers at something is doing it again 5 seconds later because screw cooldowns. You do need to get him close to the target for this though
Other notes:
Unlike the OKW Sturm Officer his guys don't run away if he gets killed, with that, his buff and the fact that he needs to get close to the enemy launch his barrage there's no reason not to get him close in with your attacking forces.
He didn't see much use when the LEFH and Panzerwerfer were not around, and unless you are going to build one or other of those he's not great, but he's certainly a cheap unit to have around for utility otherwise.

IIRC he has the same dps output as a gren squad. So definitely let him fight.
Also, to get more use out of him I like to build a mortar or two. And use his ability to clear out garrisons and focused units.
Shooting werfers twice as much is nice too.

There is also a stackable bulletin that increases range on all artillery around offizier. If I remember correctly its range*1,07 per bulletin.
