Volks schreck, necessary evil or no?

Five levels of veterancy is what makes volks so problematic. Combined with how AT weapons confer a great deal of XP, often ramping up that XP gain, an extremely cheap unit can became a highly vetted powerhouse rather quickly.


5 vets that means jack shit you mean. Im getting a bit tired of ignorant people continually proclaiming that vet 5 on volks is potent while in reality a vet 3 riflesquad would wipe the fucking floor with them.

No, it's a bad mechanic and unhistorial, Volks should lose schreck and get panzerfaust.

Do you know what the five levels of vet mean? Volks get here and there bonuses, but they are not as good as, for example, vet3 rifleman, vet3 IS or vet3 grens because even hefty numbers like + 60% accuracy mean nothing if the BASE NUMBER is laughable.

Before their nerf, the main ability of volks was sustaining damage, which is very useful for hunting tanks using a single shrek all the while receiving fire from enemy infantry. Of course, that led to blobbing issues, so they received some other bonuses to make up for that loss. Obviously, that seems to not make up for it.

Gib Volks more AI (rifle damage from 10 to 12), redesign the shreck into a PzFaust-like ability*, increase Volks cost to 240 (although it doesn't really matter) and be done with it.

I honestly prefer a snare to the current shreck.

* You buy the shreck upgrade for 90 muni but instead of getting a shreck, Volks get the ability to fire a shreck - for free because you have to buy it for every squad individually.

Same range/cooldown as PzFausts but penetration/damage of shrecks.

The results:

- rifle damage from 10 to 12 basically increases their DPS to a value slightly below Grens
- A-moving Volks blobs (with shrecks) won't work (anymore) against vehicles
- Shrecks basically get less range/higher cooldown compared to bazookas in exchange for 100% accuracy (same as PzFausts) and the ability to snare vehicles
- Volks don't lose a weapon slot


+1 on these suggestions, would like to ad to get more range on the raketten, like the same as pak/zis even when they have cloack.

that seems needlessly complicated. Why not just given them a faust ability.

Panzershrecks itself overperforming imo, have you ever seen a axis medium tank destroyed by 1 volley of bazooka? but i have seen panzershreck did many times.

It's not the shreck but volks themselves. They get multiple accuracy bonuses with vet and even after the panzershreck long range accuracy nerf they still hit tanks fine from maximum range.

You can't nerf the shreck without nerfing ostheer. Unless they do it like they did in COH 1 where panzer grenadiers and grenadiers had different panzershreck stats.

Because we wouldn't hear their voice lines for shrecks anymore :(

And probably because they don't even have voice lines for PzFausts. I'm not sure about that tho.

You are most certainly correct in what you are saying.

But shreks still make it a whole lot easier for fresh volks to gain vet than it is to vet up, say, new rifles. That's all I was saying.

So the Rakettan will have just as much range as a pak and be able to retreat?

That is overpowered.

and most people get 3-4 volks at the least.
the schreck both strengthen and limit the volks. stg44 + faust is a much more flexible upgrade than just schreck. It will allow the volks to properly fight both infantry and tanks at the same time.
