The abuse is that they allow the Comet to hard-counter Anti-Tank Guns, by both out ranging them and forcing them to either retreat all the way to HQ to heal, or die.

They move quick enough.
Don't get me wrong, the range is way excessive but it's really only punishing a lack of awareness and idling set up weapons (Especially after they've been spotted by your opponent.) which is just imperfect play anyway.
