So she just won the Nobel Prize in literature. If you haven't gotten the chance to read her books I strongly suggest you do.

She gives a very personal and "civilian" face to the war. Extempt from OOBs and movements of divisions. But rather have a very good touch with how WW2 affected the humans and how the humans affected the war.

What I know is that "The Unwomanly Face of War" is a must read for anyone interested in the war in the East. But do try to get one of the more updated versions. The things published before 1991 are very much edited.

Other WW2 writings are The Last Witnesses: the Book of Unchildlike Stories. That deals with the children in WW2 in the east. But I am unsure as to its availability in engish.

She has more books about life and death in the USSR that are great to get an 'inside' look into "homo sovieticum" and an interesting read overall.

Thoughts if you have read it? Thoughts about a person that writes history getting a Nobel Prize?
