Do you realy think they care? They cashed in their money with COh2 sales. Maybe a few copies will still be sold this year, but that's about it. Time to abandon COH2 and develop another game. If these figures are real, than the game it's a big fail from popularity point of view which we, as clients, think that is the most important factor. For them, as developer and vendor, the stake is the money. 80-90% from what they could cash in with this game is allready cashed in and, from financial point of view, which matters to them, it's a success. People are often forgetting this issue.
You've made a good point, there's a strong chance that's what they're thinking.
Popularity can be converted into cash though.
Games can produce a profitable revenue stream long after they've broken even with sales. By working on DLC and microtransactions, they could continue to earn on CoH2 for years. They just need more players.
If they could only make the gamemore enjoyable, more accessible and produce regular DLC updates, they could keep making a considerable profit.
They could:
1. Set up Rookie-Automatch where new players will only be matched with new players (Like any online poker room)
2. Produce a simple walkthrough/text where the most important of the boring data (DPS, unit upgrades, etc) is laid out so new players can understand what they are doing and why.
3. #MARKETING. Microtransactions won't work with a tiny playerbase.
4. And most importantly - remove the m3a1 from Soviets 'cos damnit, we don't need a speedy armoured squad-wiper running around after 90 seconds >:/ Wrecks the gameplay and the atmosphere so early on.
