You're anal enough to include teching costs, but you diregard fuel income penalty. Fail.

your are silly enough to exclude tech, while ignoring that fact that even with the penalty, su-85 costs SIGNICANTLY more and comes later.

SU-85 fights tanks that actually have armor and number of units it can bounce of is greater then two.
Gun traverse means shit when you are not using AT gun or turreted tank.
Neither of them is a chasing or escaping unit, so acceleration means nothing.

Meanwhile, JP4 faces much weaker at and have incomparably greater armor and scaling then SU-85.

~the more you know~

The SU-85 isn't great against KT's, JPIV isn't very good against IS2's. Shockingly these very similar units that fulfill similar rolls are similar with the JPIV's gimmick being it very easy to preserve due to low target size and good armor, and the SU-85 having insanely good DPS.

And by "gun traverse" I meant the SU-85 can turn it's forward facing gun in a larger arc meaning it's not forced to rotate like the JPIV constantly is.

The SU-85's scaling is extremely good, it's ROF bonus's make it a beast at Vet 2 and 3 allowing it to put out insanely huge amounts of damage due to the fact the ROF allows you to easily put enough shots down range that even the KT will need to think twice.

SU-85:

SU-85 Medium Tank Destroyer
Unlocks the 'Tracking' ability
-30% reload, +30% accuracy
-20% reload, +20% rotation speed, +20% speed, +20% ac/de-celeration

JPIV:

Unlocks the 'Cautious Movement' ability
+10% armour, +25% HP, +35% sight range
+20% rotation speed, +20% speed, -10% reload
-25% reload, +30% accuracy
For first shot fired out of camouflage +150% damage & +150% accuracy & +150% penetration

SU-85 = 50 fuel + 120 X2

jp4 = 40 fuel + 135

try again

The first tiers for Soviets and OKW are free so it's more; 120 + 120 versus 135/.66

120 + 120 = 240

135/.66 = 204

Nah Alex, you're mistaken here. Actually, KT (and Tiger)/IS-2 are exactly two units JP IV and SU 85 respectively are strong vs, for the simple reason that they have a range advantage, and KT/IS-2 are not fast enough to reliably close in. Sure, you'll get alot of bounces, but their role is not so much to get in and kill the heavies (à la M10)but to contain them from range, accumulate vet, and keep their impact limited.

Yeah once they get Vet they can really start to mess shit up but normally the most scary stuff will be what's backing the KT + IS2 up that can make you pull back. I never send my IS2's up without ZiS gun support which can scare a JPIV away, and well Racktens can work to support KT's to sometimes :foreveralone:

My point was more that asking the most basic TD's to pen expensive super heavies reliably is a bit much.

The SU-85 has better penetration and ROF, also has higher gun traverse and acceleration

~the more you know~

True..... by 5 penetration at mid range and 0.2 speed. Kappa JP4 speed = 5.5 SU85 = 5.7 but the JP4 is better because basically all allied armor can be penned by JP4 Keepo

It's actually 10 more for the SU-85 at far, and it has 1 second better reload. The SU-85 will have many more non-heavy target for it to chew on soon enough Kappa
