Cold War 1989.....

the technological difference between 2015 and 1989 is minimal, particularly above infantry level.

also, as far as people who take NATO seriously right now, you gotta put Poland and Lithuania (or Estonia? baltic state politics is not something i keep up on...) on the list.

I wouldn't say that. We didn't have ships with freaking lasers in 1985.

we don't really have ships with freaking laser in 2015 either. there are experimental ship and aircraft based lasers but, afaik, that's it.

I was joking mostly. But nothing says future like lasers.

The biggest advance in modern warfare has been the use of drones. Which has changed warfare a bit in the last few decades. Hence why they are building lasers to counter them.

that is true.

also about drones. the only problem with them is that we haven't seen them in conventional warfare yet, the closest being Ukraine. i'm sure the military has doctrines that could be used as guidelines for game implementations though.

I've said it before, as have others - there is no reason why there can't be a third German faction.

It can be less 'Battle of the Bulge' and more End of Days - lots of infantry of varying quality, TDs, nebelwerfers and assault gun variants but no silly heavies / Wunderwaffe type nonsense. Emphasis on mobile defence and pio assault tactics, perhaps.

It would be the non-EZ mode OKW and a proper challenge. I'm thinking of the army that fought from The scheldt to Remagen.

The *only* hi-tech thing I'd like to see is Messerschmidt / Arado jet support.

I wouldn't mind not getting a third axis faction if they added a third allies faction and they did this.

Agreed. Not a bad idea at all.

The German "army" that fought from the Scheldt to the end would have to stretch credulity simply too much unless it was outright fantasy. Mobile defense? You realise the Germans had literally next to no fuel at their disposal? I mean, where would be the fun in such a faction, hopeless and outmatched in every regard?

Honestly my biggest issue with Axis at the moment is the lack of options, there is simply far, far to many "do everything" units and frankly, it's boring as shit. There are so many amazing and cool German tanks and weapons we haven't seen put into the game yet it's shocking with the way Relic loves to milk their players using DLC we haven't seen more units in commanders yet.

There would be, if and only if, it was done right. Volkssturm infantrymen, domestic and foreign SS volunteers/fanatics, and if you were really throwing historical accuracy to the wind, throw in the Werwolf partisans.

Abilities like "Zeal" and "For the Fatherland" can make a return, the faction would also have a very rag-tag look and feel about it.

Armour would be mainly the occasional call-in but the buildable AT options would be extensive and versatile. Traps, mines, defensive structures would also be non-doctrinal and comprehensive.

Commanders could vary from Urban Defense specialists, with vet Sniper call-ins and road blocks, to Conventional Warfare Commander, who would have access to the few regular army infantry left as vet Grenadiers and Panzer IVs/Panthers, to a desperate "Defend the Fatherland" at all costs commander, with call-ins of fanatical SS remnants which would play like KCH squads, more booby traps options and maybe a rare King Tiger/Elefant call-in. It would very much be a "Battle of Berlin" esque faction.

Relic wouldn't be able to pull it off, I would rather them add a bunch more cool units to Axis than have them fuck around and try and bend themselves into a pretzel to make an even MORE late war german faction work.

If you want a hard to play German faction with little in the way of armor and lots of mobile infantry they should just add the North Africa Forces as a combo of German units and Italian units.

Lasers are not going to replace bullets in the near or even far future it seems.

Lazers are just so impractical when compared to normal missiles or bullets so i doubt they will ever replace actual guns.

The use of lasers seems to be for shooting down said missiles , though.

And future space combat (if it happens at all) is probaly just going to be ships launching loads of torpedoes at each other from millions of kilometers away from their targets.

Why did i just say this???

The USN recently desployed a ship to the persian gulf with a laser system that can supposedly engage Aircraft and small specific Points of enemy ships

I could imagine something like sub-factions similar to the exchange units in ToV you could exchange several units in a faction. For example British faction is a sub faction of USF and replaces the m36 with the sherman firefly, stuart and staghound.. and so on.

If that happened I'd feel like a Russian playing through the Soviet campaign.
