COH2 Infantry units demonstration!

Could you guys help me out by giving me some info about infantry strength and weakness in different range?

what are the long range squad and Which squad is best at "Long Range" combat?
what are the mid range squad and Which squad is best at "Mid Range" combat?
what are the short range squad and Which squad is best at "Close Range" combat?

Where can I find unit's usage demonstration to learn everything about each units?
Like units strength and weakness, best tactics for combat etc.

It would be better if coh2.org have a dedicated post to cover up everything about units!
so new player can adopt the game easily!

Coh2 has weapon profiles and each category has different characteristics:
Bolt action : ok damage across all ranges
SMG: very good up close bad at mid and long
Assault rifle: Ok short range, good mid range, bad long range
Light machine gun: bad on the move, Bad short range, ok mid range, good long range
Carbine: im not entirely sure what these ranges it excells at

Sadly only experience can really give you the information you seek. But watching videos and replays is also helpful. But I'll throw out my opinions.

Long range: Obersoldaten
Mid range: IR Stg Obersoldaten
Close range: IR Stg Obersoldaten

Really Sarantini and Romeo?

InfernoShatt, it is difficult to document what units are "best" over time because the meta of this game changes so drasticaly with each patch, so a unit's preformance one patch may be very different in the next patch. Best way to learn is to watch popular streams and see wht units they are using to greatest effect.

Someone should make a video of these coh mechanics. Bridger did one ages ago for Tales of Heroes but a new one for coh2 would be awesome.

You can use it to compare the DPS of any 2 squads in the game. For the squads themselves, you can check this: http://www.coh2-stats.com/squads

Should note that the coh2-stats compare tool doesn't take any upgrades into account, even ones the squad starts with like PTRS for Guards, so can be a bit off

does this spreadsheet take into account number of models in the squad?

I wanted to do a guide on a related topic a while ago. Not exactly the same, but basically the comparisons of two squads (pretty much what Tensai then made into his /compare). Considering it got _so much feedback_ when I asked how to best present it I then thought it would be a waste of my time.


Sarantini basically gave you the rough details:

Bolt Action: Little DPS improvement when getting closer => Best at long range.
SMG: Giant DPS drop-off at ~13 range => Only good at short range.
LMG: Little DPS improvement when getting closer => Best at long range
Assault Rifle: Mediocre DPS improvement when getting closer. On average best at mid range, heavily depends on the kind of squad they are facing.
Carbines: Mediocre DPS improvement when getting closer. On average best at mid range, heavily depends on the kind of squad they are facing.


So, it's best if you actually look at it in a squad vs squad view:

Sturmpios vs Conscripts is Assault Rifle vs Bolt Action Rifle. Best ratio for the Sturms dealing damage compared to taking damage is somewhere at near 0 range, but you do not want to charge to that range. 10 to 15 range is often enough.
Sturmpios vs Shocktroops is Assault Rifle vs SMG. Best ratio for the Sturms dealing damage compared to taking damage is at max range, but in general anything above 20 is still pretty fine. You'd never want to get close.
