Open Beta first impressions

I was in the alpha so I got to test a lot of these changes firsthand. Still, even right up until release of the open beta many things changed.

First and completely foremost is the reduced input delay. It's absolutely amazing. Suddenly the game feels so smooth and responsive, it's unreal. All the improvements to squad behavior are completely spot on. Cover works more intuitively. The 'core' of the game is just so much tighter it's like heaven. No longer does some random guy stand out of cover. No longer does your whole squad do a weird dance before firing their weapon at the target. It's like I used to be playing blindfolded and now I can see.

Second is the bugfixes. Oh god the glorious bugfixes. Machine guns moving and setting up properly, WORKING IN BUILDINGS, retreating without stopping, abilities working how they're supposed to, it's practically too many to list (which is why we have the bug tracker :D).

Third are the balance changes. I personally agree whole-heartedly with all of them, but I won't comment overly on them since I'm sure they'll all get their own threads in due time where they can be "discussed" further.

Also buildings seem more intuitive now. Stukas won't one shot them and they seem a little sturdier in general.

Above all, download and play for yourself and share your thoughts! The more people participate in this beta, the better it will be on launch day (next week?)

Input delay reduce is very welcome change, did not expect that.

Bug fixes were must, good thing they are finally being noticed. Can't really say anything about the balance changes. The heat is ON at the forums at the moment.

However I believe most of them were needed. Especially for USF.

I assume you mostly tried USF?

I played one game as OKW (and won) but it was pretty short. Vanilla factions are currently not working, but I think that will be fixed tomorrow.

+1 for making this thread. Still downloading it to try out the new stuff.

How's the new BAR though? Do you think the original rifle blobs will come back? The accuracy reduction previous patch was just reverted to the original after all. ;)

I agree. I think the ISU and JT were over nerfed tho. Double BARs turn rifles into elite infantry now :p

I'm so excited for the cover fixes. I had almost lost all hope for sound infantry play.

Before saying the ISU & JT are overnerfed, play some games and think about the fact that they aren't that easy to handle now. Pretty normal, these units have a huge impact on the game so they should be harder to handle.

BAR is viable once again. I'm also happy to report that double BARs in a WC51 can't wipe a retreating squad even if chasing across half the map. So the accuracy penalty there is quite meaningful.

Rifle blobs will definitely return, and I'll be joining them :D

Not that the standard counters don't still work perfectly well.

Interesting changes overall. This is not the way I thought USF needed buffs (I would rather decrease some amo and fuel costs) but nevertheless they needed some buffs. That 0 CP Dodge sounds odd though. Remember USF plays also against Ostheer not only against OKW.
Anyway, no comment has value before testing. Hope I have time to do it :(

Remember that units inside the dodge will perform worse now due to the decreased accuracy modifier :)
