I used to play COH and really enjoyed it and I've been watching COH2 videos on youtube and the games are pretty epic.
Just wondering if online is still alive though?

It is certainly alive , but the competitive scene not so much at the moment.
If you are just looking to play automatches etc. sure - go ahead and give it a try.
There are many flaws in the game, yet i find it quite enjoyable

Sure is. I think it takes longer to learn than COH, simply because of the number of factions and commanders, but it's well worth it.
You'll hear complaints about balance issues and bugs, but don't let that discourage you. If you diligently read up on all patch updates and major forum topics, you can easily manage around these issues. Plus, they're constantly being fixed.
The game is fun, challenging, and always changing (new maps, patches, new commanders, etc.). I highly recommend you start by reading some of the guides on this site (mind you, they're slightly outdated now), reading the forums, and watching loads of (recent) replays.

Sure is. There are a few issues with balance (it's not as bad as the people on this site make it out to be) but it's still great fun to play competitively =)

Yeah, there are plenty of people online playing at most hours of the day to have fun.
