at 1 hp for each soldiers even rear echelon should be able to kill something if you put them in their retreat path

True that, but you won't always have troops on the retreat path.

Also, the units gets slow as shit, by the time it gets out of the smoke, you have shelled the spot at least three times.

Happened to me once, some guy used white phosphorus barrage, then shelled the smoke, there was nothing I could do except watch my unit die

It's actually pretty good for giving your opponent a micro nightmare. All you have to do is click a button and he has to dodge a bunch of timed explosives if he chooses not to avoid the area entirely. As far as area denial abilities go this one actually isn't that bad.

Mortar halftrack does need a buff on its normal rounds..i have used this and it doesn't feel as useful as the ost mortar halftrack.
