Oh, the first comment was just mocking the "if you think THAT is drumming/metal/music/singing/anything-musicrelated..." line in your previous comment, which is why I don't care too much about music communities any more. (horrible attitude generally, esp several metal communities)

I don't enjoy the comparisons. You can make them on a technical level, but at a certain point that doesn't matter to me, at all. What he produces and how it elevates or "make" the music is what matters, same for any music really. In the example of Gavin, he makes '3' 'trains' and 'sound of muzak' for example, into what they are.

EDIT: I also think Rich Hutchins from Phideaux deserves a mention.

I understand what you are saying and I respect that view, but such an attitude does not allow any comparisons. E.g You say it is good because of what it 'makes' but you can never prove that and so are dependant on me seeing it (which incidentally I do in this example).

Thus the only way we can talk about music accurately is technicality, it is the only part of music that can be truly scrutinised. I agree with you that ultimately what matters is 'feel' but there is nothing to say on that matter, so why talk about it?

Finally I feel like I should point out, that whilst I admire your distaste for music communities (as I do) you should note that you probably do not practice the method you are advocating. I.E. I very much doubt that you do not judge some music as 'bad' (Taylor Swift for instance?), even though by your own reckoning you have no way to do so.

But anyway I feel like I have inadvertently brought on a discussion and thus hijacked the thread, so I am not going to post on here anymore. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk about it further, I am interested in what you have to say.

Take care,

TinGod

Lights is one of those pop songs I can always listen to. Very nice when I'm out running down by the river during nighttime, stars & moon and all. ^_^

Killing in the name of is barely music, it's more like pure badass set to a beat.

I like Bombs over Baghdad a bit more tho.

Since they released their latest album today:

Just epic musicians and the most mental live performances you will ever witness.
Check them out if you are into music that stretches the boundaries of music with chaotic and jazzlike schemes. This is very weird music for most people. I simply love it.
