They often have ! and # at the end. You can leave that out without changing the video for some reason though.

Don't you mean "?" instead of "!"?
I think it's just the start of $_GET and the anchor respectively.

If you start to watch an embedded youtube video (so you're not at the start of the video) and then click the link to youtube at the bottom right, the youtube url will have a "#!" at the end, which is often mistaken as part of the video id apparently. On gamereplays it didn't matter if you included those into the youtube tag, but here it does.
