Schützenpanzerwagen (Infrarotscheinwerfer) Introduced in late 1944, it mounted a 60 cm infrared searchlight with a range of 1.5 km for illuminating targets at night. Known as "Uhu" (Eagle Owl), they guided IR sight-equipped Panther tanks to targets that were out of range of their own smaller infrared searchlights.

Two Panther tanks from the Wiking Division as seen through the lens of an SF14Z scissors periscope from another Panther in the summer of 1944. The Division was fighting desperately to preserve the shattered front and hold back the Red Army when the Soviet summer offensive, codename Bagration .

Tiger ‘321’ from schwere SS-Panzer-Abteilung 101 training in Northern France in the spring of 1944.

SS-Untersturmführer Michael Wittmann and his crew pose in front of Tiger ‘S04’ with its 88 “kill” markings. Wittmann was awarded the Knight’s Cross on 14 January 1944. His gunner, SS-Rottenführer Balthasar Woll, has just received the Knight’s Cross as well. The date is 18 January 1944.

Hauptmann Peter Kiesgen, winner of the Knight’s Cross and former Hitlerjugend leader, helps train new recruits in the use of the Panzerfaust 60 in 1944. The Hauptmann wears five tank destruction badges on his right sleeve, each one awarded for the single-handed destruction of an enemy tank.
