Thought this might interest some : http://www.gamereactor.dk/nyheder/139961/Company+of+Heroes+2-interview/

Not a lot of new things, but still. A few. Mostly about Commander archetypes as he talks about Commander abilities. Something about 5 abilities, some passive, some active. Pre-chosen before a fight. So an extra thing on top of Doctrines i'd guess at the current stage.

Oh nice interview!!! He spoke about 5 abilities so I was probably wrong. Also he said some interesting things I can't wait to see myself  And he talks about some news related to the game that they will announce when we get close to the release!

Interesting that a few maps will have a winter and a spring/summer version in multiplayer.

Can someone do a TLDR of the important things? Don't have time right now and the website isn't even working for me. :)

Was a bit surprised to hear him talking about the commander bits. But my impression at the moment is you'll have doctrines like they are now. And then the Commander archetypes are a pre-chosen addition to augment your playstyle from the beginning.

Bit like Runes/Masteries for League of Legends.

Not sure if I like pre-chosen. Doctrines were kind of like a wildcard, good for counters or comebacks.

Don't quite know that system :p But probably. Just with CoH style abilities.

I hope we get doctrines in addition to abilities.

Considering i have seen doctrines mentioned seperately. Well i see no reason for them not to be there. commander archetypes is just there to augment.

Same map in winter and spring sounds like a tough job to balance for the mapmakers.

Sounds kinda cool, I just hope they don't go overboard with the player progression like many shooters have gone in these days.

They're talking an awful lot about bridge maps. Could turn into Achelous River in the summer. I wonder if automatch will select a season for you or you will know beforehand.

I think they just use that as an example for explaining the cold tech ;) Don't think we need to worry about that.

I read somewhere recently - please don't ask to me to link, bcs I was browsing - that CoH2 was originally envisaged as an expansion to CoH. And I think this would have been 'perfectly fine' (to borrow from Inverse), bcs you could fit in the Battle of the Bulge and the winter campaign of 1944 in S Holland/NW Germany, and then melt the snows and follow on from there, with the armies we already play.

CoH2 on the Eastern Front is an ambitious project, given both the backdrop of events unfolding at THQ, and the sheer enormity of portraying that conflict. Commercially, given the financial exigencies, I think Relic might have been better to have stuck to W Europe, with armies that could be faster and more easily adapted. The maps are there. Hey! Flooded Plains in winter and summer could be fun.

@Pvtprivate: Valid concerns. A bit is nice. Too much, is well too much :p

And think generalhell is right there. Some things are just examples :) just like the maps shown at the expos. just there to show off things and illustrate.

For me this is the worst bit of news so far. Nothing should be chosen before a match besides your army. Yes I was hugely disappointed with the ToV unit switch-out. Choices should be made in-game, in response to your opponent's choices, not arbitrarily before hand.

Why ? And why would a choice beforehand be arbitrary ? And not say, part of a larger strategy ?
