Normally i really hate paying to play for anything , but it just seems that some of these p2p commanders are pretty decent. My question , since im still learning and will be for a very long time, is which commanders are worth purchasing? So far the most useful ones i see are the Elite troops for the wehrmacht and urban defense tacts for the reds. Any suggestions? What are some of you guyses favorites and why?

Those two are widely regarded as broken and exploitative in their current state. Don't expect to make any friends using them. In fact, expect to be hated. I would expect them to get whacked with the nerf bat again, actually. Caveat emptor.

Other commanders that I would say are worth your time and won't cost you your soul or dignity are...
Ostheer:
Spearhead, Joint Operations, Luftwaffe Supply, and Lightning War

Soviet:
Counterattack, Armored Assault, Shock Army, Urban Defense

Pay-to-play rather

Btw, I'm unable to browse through payable commanders directly via steam page. Anybody else have this too?

Yeah. You need to search for them in the Steam store. For some reason.

Don't listen to anyone whining that these commanders are p2w because they aren't. They are fun and offer different ways to play and people that whine about em just cant handle getting outplayed and admitting it. The Tiger Ace is powerful but risky as well and it isnt going to win you the game by itself unless your opponent doesnt think and fight it right.

Eh, some ingenuous part deep inside of me had a hope that they got rid of all that payable crap and removed all commanders from the catalog. But that would be too good to be true.

Get Counter-Attack tactics and mechanized infantry doctrine, they are fun to use. Not that great of doctrines but they are fun doctrines, also join operations doctrines can be fun to use.

If you can't find what you want via searching, try this: http://store.steampowered.com/sale/Company_of_Heroes_2_Commanders/

As well as computerheat's recommendations I'd suggest Mechanized Support and Anti-Infantry. They're probably my two favourite Soviet commanders.

I'd also add Soviet Mechanized Support commander.

How is urban defense OP? Computerheat are you mixed up with Soviet industry?

Urban defense slows down your tech. It forces you to be campy to get any use outnof it. Its ok in team games but not so great in 1v1 its bery easily dwalth with by mortors early game ans werfers will pretty much level a fob in one barrage. So get good at hunting down arty or youve just wasted your doctrine choice.

I would say for soviet

Mechanized support - Guards, Mark Vehicle, ISU-152 are good reasons to use this one.
Soviet shock army - Has more or less everything to wreck infantry. Heavy strafe at the end is extremely potent, but expensive.

Ostheer

Spearhead - Good for moving around with tanks and the halftrack is nice vs 120 mm mortars. Use it less since tank-smoke is more expensive now.

Joint operations - Really nice in teamgames and or when you feel like working with emplacements. Pak43 kills soviet armor fast.

Mechanized Assault - The assaultgrenadiers are quite fun to play around with early if your opponent doesnt rely heavy on shocks. If they do, the mechanized pgrensquad is a good counter as long as there is little AT nearby.

Eh? I think my meaning came across backwards :3 What I meant to say was that Urban Defense is a commander that isn't OP and gives different possibilities to play around with. Soviet Industry still has some problems that need to be worked out (same with Elite Troops).

Dont think its p2w still. Alot of the paid commanders are not better than the standard ones. I think that only 2 stand out and are more powerful, lingering on p2w (you still gotta play well) and that is soviet industry and elite troops.

Oh yes it is. That is: Unless you are a clueless p2w noob who knows nothing about supporting or repairing an überbossIKILLUunit.

Tiger Ace is a beer-n-pretzel unit. It does not belong in this good game of sweat, tears and many clicks.

+1 to that, pre-vetted units do not belong in CoH...

I'm pretty confident we'll see a sizable Tiger Ace nerf in the coming weeks. It's just too controversial and unbalanced a unit; the sheer number of threads complaining about it across the main forum and this one should be affirmation of that.

A vanilla Tiger with the shiny skin and normal vet 3 status/stats would be fine. Add to that a sensible cooldown for the Troop Training ability and Elite Troops would be a fairly well-balanced commander.

I don't see the other commanders as being P2W (even future ones, judging by the leaked screenshots) and Industry isn't too bad now that it only affects vehicle times. You still need the fuel to call them in, and it does give you a MP handicap.
