Last played just before the new patch (12-10-13) without issue. Now, when playing with buddies, we keep getting a frozen "Please wait..." screen.
My buddies have "verified game cache" but still no luck.
ISSUE RESOLVED: The issue causing this problem is having downloaded custom maps (either too many workshop maps [see this link] or one or more corrupted maps).
The way to resolve the issue is as follows:
1.) From within the game, at the main menu, click "Workshop" at the bottom right.
2.) Click a map then click "Unsubscribe" at the bottom.
3.) Click a map then click "Delete" at the bottom.
4.) Repeat for every map.
5.) From the desktop navigate to "Documents\my games\company of heroes 2\mods\scenarios\subscriptions" & manually delete each map.
6.) Enjoy your working game!

Have you played on any custom maps? I was getting people saying this was happening after they played on a Steam Workshop map but we weren't able to reproduce it.

Should add: Using "Verify game cache" produces a "Downloaded 13.6MB" note in the downloads page.
