This is classic "I just lost so go rage on forums" post. But in CoH3 retreating infantry are so easy to focus fire and kill the squad outright. Does anyone else feel this?
I retreat with 3 models and if they can get a half decent position with a squad or two they can snipe them so easily. Are the retreat modifiers in COH3 just unforgiving?
This happens even at the early stages of the game where firepower is weak.
My constructive suggestion would be modify it so the survivability of squads is similar to coh2. Retreating squads receive DPS (so forced to wait to heal up) but not kill 4 models outright (this should only be with a lot of firepower).
Its just another thing to encourage blobbing.
Rage post over, thank you for letting me vent.

I just played CoH3 on the free weekend, but it feels like retreating is a 99% guarantee to get your squad out alive if it starts with at least somewhat decent health. CoH2 was pretty unforgiving though.

I completely agree, I feel as though in COH2 retreating at 1/4 health was reasonable and you had a very good chance of making it however in coh3 retreating at 1/4 health is far more risky. Blob tactics can essentially kill a 70% health squad on retreat.
Further to this point (of weak infantry) grenades seem to be quite powerful. Grenades even when dodged can do 50% health damage. The cost vs reward on these grenades is out of whack. In coh2 grenades were a strong but aside form the bundle grenade they were not high probability wipes

I have not played Coh3, but many Coh2 players have said the complete opposite.
Retreating squads are much safer in Coh3. Units only take 50% damage when retreating in Coh3.
Grenades dont normally do as much damage in Coh3. People just tank them usually. Trying to move is not a good idea in some cases. Might be a debuff when in cover so it better to eat the nade?
Interesting.
The massive blobbing could be the issue as was mentioned above.
