Set outside of the French city of Calais, there were several artillery batteries built. Many of these fortifications still exist to this day in the surrounding towns and fields. This map takes inspiration from the Batterie Grosser Kurfurst and Batterie Todt located at Cap Gris-Nez, the closest point on mainland Europe to Britain. These emplacements were 280mm and 380mm battleship turrets placed in concrete, and were used for anti-ship defense in the English Channel, as well as shooting the English coast across the channel.
Calais and the these artillery positions were liberated by Canadian Forces in 1944 as apart of Operation Undergo.
