Were osttruppen doctrine not always less than ideal vs. soviets? I personally use it almost exclusively against UKF and USF and try to use fuel drop for rushing an ostwind.

it was good vs Penals because you could get 3/4 units of the field as the second penal was built.

Fair point. But looking outside the first 5 minutes of the game I imagine that there would be quite diminishing returns on this advantage and it would generally be difficult to hold on to any capping advantage for long enough to really make an impact in the long run, right?

HelpingHans has some very good games with Ostruppen on youtube i think... generally its a gamble: You try get enough resources together to catapult yourself into the next tier of tech, so 222's Flamers HT's and Pgrens. Plus if you are doing okay by that point you can build T1 to give the Ostruppen fausts, or transition to LMG gren or sniper if you lose Ostruppen squads.

The beauty of the strat is that, because Ostruppen are expendable for the most part, you make Ost more forgiving.

In all honesty i think i could have won this game if not for the catastrophic losses i took when the KV8 came out :(
