First time i heard someone calling penals OP, this is a quick 8min 43 sec game, featuring Penal battalion start

Penal Battalions are so undervalued. They're fucking awesome. Satchel Charge is ridiculously powerful - that is the only thing I could call OP as far as they're concerned.

They worked fairly well on that map, mainly because it has buildings that you controlled, and shot block against would-be MGs pinning them before they can get in range to satchel. A FHT would have been difficult for you to take down I think, combined with more defensive placement of MGs.

I really want to like Penals but every game I've used them with I just find it harder to win.

The only time a Penal is good is when your opponent confuses it for another Conscript then you drop off a little care package

I build a Penal every single game. Just one. I'd kill more of my own guys than my enemies if I was throwing more than one satchel charge at a time.

Penals match PzGrens for DPS, and they can effectively be reinforced for 20MP a pop. They're quite valuable and extremely lethal when positioned well.
