So, it's a new patch and a new meta to discover, but I just had a very frustrating game and I can't spot my mistakes in the replay. This engagement has been characteristic of playing against OKW since the patch (I've been doing Allies today, though I switch up frequently and plan to do Axis tomorrow). I'd appreciate feedback about what I could have done differently. Here are my thoughts:
I feel like I built up a massive advantage early game:
-Pre-9:00, I bled his sturmpio squads heavily, while suffering much lighter bleed in return
-At 9:00, I traded 2 Guards models and 1 Penal model for 1 full Volks squad and his first flak track
-At 10:40, I traded 1 Con squad and 1 Engi squad for 2 Sturmpios
-Not long after, I scrapped *another* flak track without having to sacrifice more than four-ish models
After that, I started making dumb mistakes too, losing my scout car and my sniper, but not before both had more than paid their dues. Even if those units had been straight wasted, I feel like I should have still been way ahead having destroyed his first two fuel purchases (worth 110 fuel) between them. However, he seemed to be perfectly happy surviving on MP and munitions alone, throwing a steady stream of grenades and panzershrecks my way as if they were candy.
The specific problems I can identify:
1) The 120mm feels pretty bad now. It had good long periods bombarding the HQ trucks, but never actually knocked anything out; in contrast to pre-patch this is a major nerf and a crippling disadvantage when facing an aggressive HQ truck placement. The 120mm also underperforms massively compared to the ISG; in the linked replay, the ISG came out later but ended up doubling my mortar's kills, despite him clumping up much worse than I did. Watching the replay, the ISG seems to have far higher accuracy when free firing, and it routinely puts shells into the exact spot necessary to killed 3-4 Guards at once.
2) OKW grenades now get spammed at every engagement, and they're no less lethal than pre-patch. It's like getting hit with a bundle grenade every time its off cool down.
3) OKW now issues a panzershreck to every man, woman and child in Germany. The entirety of my opponent's AT force consisted of puppchens and panzershrecks, and it was plenty to push my tanks around.
So in sum, I couldn't use infantry or armor because OKW can be effective against both with just MP and munitions, and I couldn't use indirect fire because the OKW option heavily outclasses the Soviet option. I'm going to try Axis tomorrow evening, but I'm pretty discouraged about this patch right now.
OKW didn't need more munitions
