Ostheer Lightning War vs Soviets Airbourne Troops

ggwp, game went down the wire and was extremely closely contested and hard fought. Both sides played well.

Must be one of those games that was 'epic' to play but certainly not watch for the first half due to low intensity.

Just cast 25 minutes of it but gave up after watching DaPope completely idle a vet 2 g43 grenadier infront of SVT conscripts and all four die. This is after being ultra cautious and retreating early all the other times!

No offence intended of course, gg wp to both I'm sure.

Having rewatched it on someone’s cast I have to agree. Although I was microing intensely and certainly thought this would be fun to watch when I uploaded, it turns out this wasn’t much of a spectacle. Quite curious honestly.

Honestly it shows you how shallow our skill pool is, even 50-100 is still just reasonably good players who still make many mistakes, these days only when you get to the top 15 do you expect to see mostly great play and minor mistakes here and there.

I blame the exposure of major tournaments in the last few years for spoiling us honestly.

Agree and disagree, when i think about all the loses / wipes from vonivan

What i learned and saw in many years of playing coh is, that even no pros can play very well in the first 12 min, but the longer the game goes, the more mistakes happens.
Sometimes even rank 1000 people play the first 5 min absoluty perfect, because of playing 1000 of games.

You’re definitely gonna get fewer mistakes the higher up you go.

I will say this though: this was a classic Kholodny Ferma Ostheer vs Soviets game. Both factions tend to get a lot of support weapons and the map really inhibits aggressive play and lage scale manuevers. I would point you to game 1 of the 3rd place finals between Jove and Von Asten in 2019WC which was this style of game on Kholodny Ferma. I don‘t dislike the map, but it does favour a more conservative playstyle, alongside probably Faymonville. On the other hand I think Crossroads and Nexus are so open they allow some really aggressive play.

Seeing the time this replay was posted, the players could've been tired. At least that's what DaPope said when he came in chat. He has played more than 4000 matches and I know he's a good player having played against him.

I don't think the skill pool is that shallow, it's just that everyone can have a bad day, get fatigued or just not give it their hardest like they would in a tournament. What truly sets top players apart is not just preventing mistakes, but more so recovering from them and staying patient. Plenty of times I've gotten a total advantage over top ranking players like Jove/Luvnest/VonIvan/VonAsten in the early game by destroying their LV or wiping multiple squads, but they'd always keep on playing, wait for my own mistakes and win anyway.

For example, see this match with Jove, major mistakes on the top level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTDtrNfUzqs

So eh.. Just think you're overreacting a bit, that's all I'm saying. :D

it was definitly not the best game (late night, many games played before, playing as ost vs svt cons on kholodny). thats why i didnt upload/cast it by myself.

but beside that AE: you as a top 600 player blaming us and the whole community for low skill seems a little bit weird tbh.....

No offence intended of course :-)

I'm a caster, and to be honest I was just saying these comments for the benefit of other casters. "Incredible 1 hour fight" when it's just not is an important PSA, it ensures people don't waste their time.

It's not your fault, and it's no criticism of you as a player.

the game wasnt that good. no problem with that.
and i have to admire you for your outstanding altruism...:-)

i referred to your "you see how shallow the skill pool of the community is".
sorry, but thats rich, coming from you ;-) Even if youre a caster.
(and btw, is being a caster an obligation to be a bad player??? )
beside of that, you of all people should know that even the best players (not me :-) )
play kinda shitty from time to time. dont think thats an evidence for low skill in the community.

Like genuinely I have no reason to post other than to warn people that this game isn't that great. And SJ in hindsight agrees.

I spent all my time in this game series running tournament projects is that lost on you. The fact that I can maintain 300-500 on automatch with it completely not being my focus at all should be pretty telling of a shallow playerpool.

After spending the last three years casting every major 1v1 tournament from start to finish I'd like to think I can tell when a game is "incredible" or not and can spot a bit of mediocre play, by your own admission this was just that, be it due to tiredness or whatever.

Depends on what you’re looking for. If you wanna see Kimbo/Asha/Luvnest/Noggano level play, this is mediocre af.

However, I just wanna say that 90% of the replays on this forum are from level 1-5 players so rank 60-80 gameplay is not exactly mediocre in comparison.

One last thing, I was quite warmed up when I put the title and can’t change it now. Apologies if I’ve mislead anyone but this isn’t exactly fair to compare with level 20 gameplay no matter the title.

You haven't done anything wrong at all. And this is symptomatic of me being a spoiled person who's focused on tourney play for too long.

Dont mind me, I just wanted to vent. Good replay, thanks for posting.

well anyway, i think we havent different opinions on the match here.
the reason why i posted was only that the tone of your postings sounded kinda arrogant to me, thats all.
but its difficult and becausse of that senseless interpreting written things, cause you dont see the guy saying it, so lets stop this here ;-)

have a nice day all , cya on the battlefield :-)
