The War Paint Championship Series finale is approaching (OCT 7/8th). It has been an exciting tournament so far and we can only hope that the finale be as epic as rest of the tournament. There were some laughs and tears. There were spectacular games and there were upsets. Now it is time to put cult figures such as Paul.a.d and Barton, community favourites such as Luvnest and Helpinghans behind us and focus on the two who are still standing: DevM and Jesulin.
DevM
DevM, Damn Evil Vicious Mouse, is a veteran CoH player who had been community legend even before many of us were part of the community. He was once a boy wonder and now he is just a wonder. This confident veteran player is known for unflinching aggressiveness, unhindered momentum even when losing a squad, incredible micro and quick knock-outs. He is determined to win the tournament and he is quite confident. He has no reason to doubt himself for he is the proud victor of SNF4 (CoH1), OCF, ESL EU #9 and ESL NA #5.
I would be lying if I told you that his path to the finale was rocky. It was very smooth. He played 17 games so far and only four of those games went over 30 minute mark and only one game over 40 minute mark. All in all, the average length of games is 24 minutes. He won all the games except two, both of them he lost to Theodosios.
His favourite factions, or only factions, are USF and OST. In most of his games as USF he didn't even need to pick a commander before the games closed, picking Heavy Cavalry Company in the rest. His favourite OST commanders so far were Mobile Defense and Mechanized Assault.
Jesulin
Do I need to say more? Jesulin is a household name for CoH2 enthusiasts and he was once widely recognised as the #1 in CoH2. He proved his worth in Dr. Wachs' $1000 tournament and Alienware Arena EU. Although he was deemed missing-in-action in recent months, he is back to fight DevM, a legend. He is stoic, well mannered and calm. His micro and strategies are up there with the top 0.01% and he is highly adaptable: defensive sometimes and aggressive in other times. His flexibility has served him well until now.
His path to the finale was a little bit rockier. Out of 11 games he played, he lost three - one to Barton and two to DevM in the semi-finals. The latter meant he actually lost the round, but due to Noggano not being able to fly to Canada, Jesulin and VonIvan dueled for his place.
The average length of Jesulin's games is 34 minutes. His favourite factions are USF and OKW. There were two games where his picks weren't these two. They were SOV and OST. Interestingly, both these games were against DevM. His favourite commanders are Scavange (OKW) and Armor Company (USF).
Interview
?pigsoup:What is your name and where are you from?
!My name is João and I live in a small city called Aveiro but currently studying in Porto which are cities that are both in the north of Portugal.DevM
!My real name is "Jesús Antigüedad López" and I live in a town called Miranda de Ebro located in the north of Spain.Jesulin
?pigsoup:How was your path to the final?
!I think my path to the final was good in the sense the players I was most afraid of went down without providing much trouble. The most memorable game I can think of was the qualifier final against Theodosios but that wasn't really an important match since both of us were already qualified.DevM
!I guess I did better than in ESL marathon and finishing in 3rd position (with the posibility of playing the finals with the disqualification of Noggano). It has been a very positive experience for me because I had to play versus good players like VonAsten, Wuff, BartonPL, DevM (losing versus him) and VonIvan.´It was very difficult to me because I did not feel comfortable playing CoH2 like I did in the past but nevertheless I am happy with my performance in WPC. I think the G2 vs BartonPL was probably the most intense game that I have ever played in Company Of Heroes 2. A long match of +1h with an epic final that both of us could won.Jesulin
?pigsoup:What do you think of the opponent? Are you confident that you are going to win?
!I have played Jesulin a number of times and if I were to answer this question right after the semi we played it would be an easy "yes" but even now I'm pretty confident I can win.DevM
!I think everyone knows DevM and his play style is always the same. He plays so aggressive as USF and nobody handles OST sniper better than him. He has won all the games from the tournament. All I need is to survive until late game and avoid as much action as possible. With some luck like m20 running over a teller mine or killing the sniper with 2-3 cons, I think I have a fair chance. But I definitely feel like the underdog.Jesulin
?pigsoup:What are some worries you have?
!I think that jet-lag might be the most troublesome issue but I'm not really worried about it.DevM
!I have a lot of worries about how my performance will be in a different place. This is going to be an incredible new experience and I don't know if my body/mind will be able to do what I do at home when I am playing CoH2. I have no definite strategy; I'll play with my own style, Jesulin's style. If I lose it will be my fault and I prefer to "die" doing what I always do. The time difference will also impact both of us for sure. Jesulin
?pigsoup:Are you excited to go to Canada and visit Relic's HQ?
!I have never been to Canada. This will be my first time and I'm pretty excited since I have never been to NA and especially since I'm visiting the studio that made the game that I have been playing for years now. I don't know what to expect when I get to the Relic HQ. I have never been much of a DoW fan but it will be interesting to see the studios either way and meet the people behind relic ^^.DevM
!It will be a shame to leave my fatherland for a few days . But this is going to be an incredible experience because I still do not believe this dream. I am excited and ready to enjoy visiting an incredible city like Vancouver, a neighborhood called "Yaletown" and visiting Relic HQ for sure. I hope to survive these days with my poor english skills. Jesulin #L2english pls.
It will surely be a strange situation but I think with the company of DevM, Stormless and GGMachine will be a fantastic trip visiting Relic HQ and It will be a pleasure to me if it is possible the director of Relic Entertainment, Mr. Duffy and also Kyle_RE.Jesulin
If only Relic HQ was in Miami, Jesulin would be right at home... oh well. Good luck to these guys and this big event put on by Relic surely made all the participants excited. We hope for an exciting finale and more future events like this!
Update: DevM won 3 wins to 2 losses against Jesulin. Check out GG's Youtube to check out the games if you missed them!
