If I'm from New Zealand, can I play in these and just accept any lag that may occur or is it only for people from the geographical regions of USA and Europe?

I don't believe they have any rules about that. You should be able to select either USA or Europe as your region and play.

I'm assuming it would still run through the Battle Servers, so any lag would likely be the same as you usually get.

Sadly for you lot, you'd have to emigrate if you wanted to play. ESL have very strict rules regarding faking your location and if your region is not represented there you need to make them aware and they will tell you why it isn't. Don't go saying your region is North America when you live in Australia, see if you can get something working but for now, don't break the site's rules.

What in the....

1. General Settings
- Match Type: 1v1
- Tuning Pack: No mod
- Starting Resources: Standard Resources
- Starting Locations Random
- Win Condition: Victory Point
- Victory Points: 500
- Cold Tech: Scenario Settings
- Allowed Factions: All
- Allowed Commanders: All
- No Mirror Matches; all matches must be Allies VS Axis
- BO1 / Quarter Finals and above: BO3

How do you Best-of-1 without mirror matches? This coin toss idea sounds bad.

Random starting locations in a Best-of-3 on multiple different maps? Sounds bad and extremely unfair.

Bypass Delayed Password: Tournament participants will be notified around the time of Check-In with an observer mode password which must be used for all tournament matches during the current respective Go4 Cup.

Will fans be able to watch the games in observer mode? It sounds like they will lock everybody out.

looks to me to be a lockout, also indicates they have casting lined up already

Starting Locations Random would be fine if maps were symmetrical like in SC2, but in CoH2 there is always a side which is favoured.

Also, Cold Tech: Scenario Settings, does that mean what I think it means?

Observer delay is set to 15 minutes and the password will bypass this

So fans will be able to watch it but they will have to wait for 15 minutes unless you got the password of course

Say what? What you're saying doesn't make any sense and suggests something that the game can't even do, as far as I know. So with a password, there will be no delay (it's an online event so casters can't use this because players could cheat), and without a password, there will be a 15m delay? As far as I know, COH2 can't even do that. You set one delay... it can't have two different delays.

If ESL locks out the fans with a password that is only given to official casters, I will be quite upset. Dota2 has a ticket system that unlocks obsmode for tourneys at various inexpensive price like ~$3 or ~$5 a pop (it usually comes with a special skin or something too). Without a system like this, it would be totally sucky to lock all coh2 fans and unofficial casters out of watching the games in obsmode.

i have no hope to win anything cause i am a scrub but i will join the tourneys to promote the franchise. i hope all players will do so. It would be really lame to have a grand ESL coh2 tourney with ~100 players.

The game can do that, Ami. The battle servers stores the replay for the match as it is being played. If it has a delay, then the servers will wait x number of minutes before sending any information to an observer. You can think of it as subtracting x from the game time. When a password is specified for the observer mode, the servers store this password. If anyone has the password and types it in for the observer mode, then they get to observer the game with an x of 0. In other words: in almost real time.

Real time is unusable in an online event, obviously.

I just hope they don't lock the fans out of obsmode.
