+ with this buffer you are fucked up your self :D

if you really have 4K speed free for upload then use it all and set buffer at 4400
Cuz if you have double duffer then you send info in 2 sec. to the servers

And to test you real speed try the link I've posted upper - go to last post and see the video there.

I'm having some problems with the autohotkey script. It doesn't seem to have an effect on CoH at all. The strange thing of it is that it does work on Steam and Google Chrome.

I managed to fix this! Apparently, CoH was in compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3. I turned off compatibility mode and the Autohotkey script works like a charm. It might be worth adding a mention to turn of compatibility mode!

I have heard that people have managed to stream at 1080p even though their screen resolution is much lower. This is why I decided to try out this new software. I thought the point of this thread was to test things out not to make fun of others...

As for the buffer I always thought it was supposed to be double the bit-rate. Am I mistaken?

I wasn't making fun of you! The fact that you tried to stream at a higher resolution than your screen-resolution just made me/us think that you might not know what you're doing. Just tried to clear things up...

to answer your other question:

Max Bitrate and Buffer Size Demystified

Max bitrate determines your maximum average bitrate (in kilobits per second) throughout streaming. You want to set this value to approximately how much bandwidth you want video encoding to use. Note, however, that this does not necessarily ensure that you will never go over this value in a single second, but rather that it will use this as the maximum bitrate based upon your buffer size. Also, make sure to factor in audio bitrate in to the value you choose here, as you will need to have room for audio as well.

Which leads us to the buffer size. Buffer size determines how much data is (in kilobits) is is buffered before playing. Buffering allows it to further improve motion quality while trying to maintain a certain bitrate. So, let's say you have a bitrate of 1500, and a buffer size of 1500. That means that it will have one second of buffering. A bitrate of 1400 and a buffersize of 2800 would mean that there is two seconds of buffering before playing. Generally I wouldn't recommend you set this too much higher than your bitrate, because it can potentially cause your bitrate to become more inconsistent, but I'd play around with it to see what you can handle.

As was said, if your buffer size is too much larger than your bitrate, it can cause you to use potentially more bandwidth than you have available at a given point because the max bitrate is trying to keep an average bitrate not based upon your network bandwidth, but based upon the buffer size. Though your average bitrate will ultimately stay the same, it can cause bandwidth usage to spike.

These values will directly affect quality, especially in terms of motion and image fluxuation, so you typically want to experiment to use the highest bitrate that your connection supports. You may also have to make sure you are connected to the closest available streaming server as well to further maximize your bitrate and bitrate consistency.

Thanks for the info however I am still unsure of what bit rate and buffer rate I should set in general for my current system specs. Currently on Twitch I stream at 768p with a bit rate of 1500 and a buffer of 3000. The quality is 10 and the preset is veryfast. With these settings my stream has been just fine however I want to know if I can possibly improve of the quality by changing a few things around. My upload and download speeds can be seen below.

Edit: I have just done three bandwidth tests at a bit rate of 2000 and a buffer of 4000. They all returned a green positive result.

You CAN stream at 1080p, but like Sam said you won't magically gain more pixels than you have on your own monitor so there is no point in doing it.

+ your processor will be used even more.

Still you can stream 1080p if you have good CPU and good upload.. this 4k on speedtest.net is not real IMO

You know what... in the OBS website there is something to test what your PC and internet are able to.

1. Don't stream at a higher resolution than the screen used to play the game. This makes the compression cost a bit higher as it will have to execute bi-linear interpolation or similar tricks to stretch the outgoing video.
2. Download doesn't mean shit in this case, only upload - which sadly is rather limited from most ADSL-providers :(
3. I'm not 100% sure about the buffer-sizes, but I can tell you that you should set the maximum output per sec to be a quite a bit lower than your max upload speed or you might make your game and stream lag. Your settings are fine in this regard - you may be able to put it a bit higher.

the point is you don't achieve better quality than your native resolution, if yours is 768 then it doesn't matter if your cpu is a nuclear reactor, you shouldn't stream higher than 768, it's like importing a poor quality video in premiere and exporting it in 1080, useless.

If that connection speed from speedtest.net is consistent, your settings should be fine. Should it be less, you may run into problems with your buffer size, because spikes may run into your upload limit. Especially, because audio bandwidth has to be added on top.
Generally speaking, you don't need that much for 768p. I'd try 2000/3000 (max/buffer). If you run into pixel artifacts, maybe reduce it to 1750/3000.

I'd also suggest OBS anyway, because it improves performance a lot over xsplit.

P.S. I assumed you didnt use a framerate of more than 30fps.

I'm having some problems with the autohotkey script. It doesn't seem to have an effect on CoH at all.

may right click on shortcut or exe and choose run as administrator will solve the problem. But keep in mind to run the game first. Then run the script. After that hit ctrl+alt+z.

hope this will help

Thats not true. You can run the script in any order.

but the script does not make sense without the game and it makes it easier for further troubleshooting if other issues follow. So you are of course right with your statement - i think that is what you wanna hear ;-) - and i hope HIS problem is solved.

Having some problems streaming CoH on my laptop. I'm running windows 7 64 bit and got CoH outside of steam. I use OBS and use game capture. CoH shows up in the options for game capture, I select it and switch to that screen then fullscreen the game, but I just get a complete blackscreen (with sound still working) much like when you got game capture on without having the game window up.

I've tried both 32 bit and 64 bit version of OBS and neither works, but Dawn of War 2 works great with just using game capture->dow2 then fullscreen, so I know that it shouldn't be a problem with my laptop...

Any ideas?

Well I think that´s the problem. Don´t use game capture option in obs. Just follow the steps in the streaming guide. [Select Software Capture -> Monitor (or Window)]
If I remember correctly there is still a problem with capturing directx games in obs. Some games work just fine - others don´t. Unfortunately CoH is not working in game capturing mode.

Already fixed it, as you can read at post #22. Damn compatibility!
