2013 Summer Mentoring Program

highlight
COH2.ORG is proud to present the Summer 2013 Mentoring Program for Company of Heroes 2. Mentoring Programs have been a long standing tradition and an integral part of the Company of Heroes community and that will continue on with Company of Heroes 2. This is a great opportunity where players of different skill levels can meet up and get a chance to be mentored or to give back to this great community.

Visit the Mentor Signup Thread if you'd like to mentor someone who could benifit from your experience. Mentees always outnumber Mentors so good on you if you can commit!

Visit the Mentee Signup Thread if you'd like someone to help you improve your play.

Signups close July 22nd and matchups will be posted later that week.

Role of a Mentor

The role of a mentor may seem obvious by the name alone, but the how to go about the task itself is an endeavor that has no finite answer. Being a good player doesn't necessarily make one a good mentor, as one must be both experienced in Company of Heroes 2 and a wise, patient teacher. COH2.ORG has no requirements for mentors other than make a significant effort to instruct their mentees. Many successful mentors in past programs have used:

  • Writing reviews of their mentee's replays
  • Watching replays with their mentee (using VOIP or IM clients)
  • Skirmishing with their mentee
  • Recommending strategy content reading to their mentee

For both returning and new mentors, let it be known that the COH2.ORG staff fully appreciates your commitment. The dedication of such experienced individuals is what makes the mentor program possible.

Role of a Mentee

Nearly every Company of Heroes player could use some help in an area or two. Sometimes, however, the solutions or even the problems of one's playstyle are not clear. The mentor program is aimed precisely at assisting such players. By pairing up with a more experienced player, COH2.ORG hopes to help players improve faster and advance to new levels of play, beyond anything they would have been capable of achieving alone! It's also not entirely uncommon to develop a steadfast friendship and 2v2 partner through the mentor program.

Commitment

One of the most important things to understand, that is required in the Mentor Program, is Commitment. Do not sign up if you are going AFK for 3 months on vacation, do not sign up if you're not going to be active, do not sign up unless you're serious about mentoring or getting mentored. If you take up a mentorship and go AFK then you are just taking someone else's spot, so please be respectful of others' time!

How it Works

Within a few days after signups close, you'll be paired with a mentor/mentee and the pairing list will be posted. We do our best to pair people with others in appropriate time zones, but we cannot guarantee to find the most convenient solutions. Once the list is posted, the mentor will create a thread in the Mentoring Forums for them to convene at. This thread is where discussions and reviews can take place. The program lasts as long as you want. Mentoring is often ongoing for 6+ months but it's all up to the participants. Have fun!
