A message from the Director of Social Media
"Amazing." The first thought that came into my head when I got the green light. "Creating the first map-making contest for COH2, this is why I joined staff!"
Little did I know what lay ahead. Draft after draft was fine-tuned as more ideas and suggestions poured in. Along with that came opportunities. All of the sudden, we had a ton of money in the bank, wonderful t-shirts and a magnificent contribution from Relic Entertainment. Things got serious. This was becoming an official Map Making Contest. Yep, maps will be added to the map rotation pool.
Much to my expectations, the level of entries we received was high. When we started giving our feedback, we saw maps grow. We saw mapmakers hone their skills, trying to maximize the maps they made. That's why my first thanks and appreciation goes to them, the mappers. Your endless hours of work is really appreciated and we are happy to offer you some proper rewards for all your efforts.
The Map Making Contest could never have been launched if it were not for the COH2.ORG staff. Things did not always go smoothly but we toughened up and kept on going. I had a lot of fun working on this. This is the result of great teamwork so cheers to them as well!
Only thing for me to say is this: may the best maps win!

A message from the Director of Maps & Mods
So, the time and date is upon us to finally release the winning maps in COH2.ORG's first Map-Making Competition! Without a shadow of a doubt, the response from the community has been stellar, with almost 50 maps being contributed, each of them unique and worthy of praise, leaving our judges the difficult decision of making an informed selection of 9 winners: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for the three map categories (1vs1, 2vs2 and large).
However, before we discuss the results, I feel it is necessary to explain the process that our judging team has taken in order to come to their decision, as this has been far from a smooth journey. As can be expected from a voluntary community, we've hit some snags along the way, particularly including the resignation of Siberian and Zero from our crew. With two members down, my thanks must go particularly to Janne252, MaxiKing6, HelpingHans, Von Kluge, and Strummingbird, for both their feedback in the forums and for taking their time out to judge the competition. For those who voiced concerns, I myself have not had any part in the judging of the maps, or in voting for them, as I have entered maps into the competition (I am a mapper at heart, after all).
With the aid of the judging criteria and their own personal preferences, each of our 5 judges have selected 3 maps from each category that they would like to see win the competition (they have not assigned 1st, 2nd or 3rd place to any map), and the maps with the most votes win. In the case of a draw, the judges have discussed which of the two maps should take the position.
But anyway, without any further ado, I am proud to present COH2.ORG's Map-Making Competition winners for 2014.
Winners and Runners-Up for the 1vs1 category
Winners and Runners-Up for the 2vs2 category
Winners and Runners-Up for the Large (3vs3/4vs4) category
Many thanks and congratulations to all of our winners! For those with First Place positions, I will personally be handing them over to the crew at Relic, in the hope that their keen eye will deem them worthy of being added to the Official Map Pool.
Each of our winners will be contacted via personal messages within the next few days, to disclose and discuss their winnings, so please be patient! For those who did not place, I still offer my congratulations and sincerest thanks for participating - it is your contributions that give us hope for the lifespan of this community, and without you, we would have neither the interest, not the passion to host these events.
And finally, a special thanks goes out to our sponsors, Airborne Ales and Relic for their prizes, and of course our Donor, who, while anonymous, has gracefully gifted us with the winnings!
