So in this 3v3 I started by facing Soviet T1 supported by maxim and mortar not all the way to 2v1 more like 1.5 v 1 seems one of the soviet players was actually being a team player supporting both teams.
Killed a few snipers with kunbel and eventually got it to vet5 but that was short lived, it died when I was busy dodging kathy barrage and a shock troops came in for a flank, I had no support from allies, just one mg42 covering the flank and a mortar barraging maxim would be enough but no, got the support gun but couldn't hold ground and it got stolen later got stuka.
In the end apparently the US player went AFK and my allies were able to breakthrough because of that. |
Well by the time the M20 is out the OKW should have one shreck in production maybe, if you rush for puma you must get muni transfer to fuel to come even close to the M20 timing so no shreck in this case but you can have a racketen at anytime though.
M20 shouldn't come any later than 5 minutes if so the US player screwed up somewhere, either no map control or spammed to many rifles and is bleeding mp like crazy.
I do agree that you have a very short window of opportunity to kill the kunbel but if used properly M20 will kill it in 1 or 2 volleys. Try this once M20 is out try to move your infantry around the kunbel make it face its rear armor towards the incoming M20
And if you think that puma is on the way a few At mines at key spots, roads or flanking routes and most importantly keep the M20 near the mines to bait the puma.
The reason why puma comes this early seems to be mainly to counter the US HT.
As for the T4 Truck, US At gun with a spotter (pathfinder or M20) seems to be the most effective option, but good placement will make that very hard to pull off.
As for the Teching system I really haven't given it much thought so don't any suggestions regarding that.
just silly that in big team games all I need is Shreck volks a kunbel a Stuka and wait for the big tanks, if you want durable AI go for a few panzerfusilliers and you are set, but haven't played much OKW in big team games so might be wrong. |
double pio opening so you can have one squad capping the other side of the map, Soviet T1 is only effective when the units are all together must protect those snipers or its all over.
By having your army fighting for half the map and one squad capping the rest you can get to T2 faster and rush the 222, this also gives you 2 minesweepers later on so you can clear 2 routes at the same time be careful with 222 one well placed mine and its all over.
If there is an m3 the most effective way to deal with it is ambush luring it with a lone and having 222 coming out as a surprise unit.
After this is up to you, want to apply early pressure? rush for T3 and get ostwind or p4 but this means you will either have to rely on Tiger doctrine to handle T34-85 or delay with packs and Tellers until you can build a panther but not skipping t3 means panther will come really late so better off with tiger if you go T3.
As for doctrines use mainly tiger ones if not skipping T3 and don't bother with arty or pack 43, pack 43 gets decrewed by snipers or arty, and LEh18 can work but its very situational, if you have the ostruppen one its also good since you wont bleed as much mp and sacrificing a squad to get a faust off is worth it.
Mostly play smart and don't get caught by those nasty mines.
Hope this helps |
So one of my soviet allies left and we were stuck in a 2v3 for pretty much the whole game, we took out so many panthers and KT even got the jagdtiger before the end but the blobs were too much to handle came to a point were they nearly one shot my shermans ridiculous, I threw away many tanks but was flooding resources so no big deal, in the end there were just too many infantry to handle we got completely outnumbered |
Well for US it doesn't feel that the sherman comes that late because you only have to tech LT and you can go straight for major and since you get a free combat unit, teching doesn't even slow down your infantry aggression off course if you get light vehicles your sherman gets pushed back a bit.
So that's 50 LT plus 90 major plus the sherman cost 110 (I think) so 250 not that different from p4 or T34, with doctrines you can skip base upgrades by getting LMG on para or with infantry company, grenades are good but its not impossible to play without them and the most important grenade in my opinion AT nade is unlocked with vet so np, you do need the ambulance before the tank but that's a minor setback.
The puma does seem to come really early but so does the US Halftrack and I believe that's the main reason for the puma timing.
The Soviets T-70 coming late seems to be more a Tier system design flaw by having both light and medium armor in same Tier, this works for OKW having panzer II and Panther because of the huge fuel cost difference between them 55 to 175 and with 66% income, but T-70 and T34 is a mere 30 fuel difference with full income, in order to get an appropriate timing on T-70 the T-34 would come too early.
I actually suggest a crazy idea in another thread to switch T-34 with SU-76 making T3 all about light vehicles and making soviet T4 similar to US T4, I though about keeping the early game the same but making T4 unlocked only after you got 2 tech buildings up.
So you would open with T1 or T2 and unlock T3 tech again and unlock T4 this would mean obvious cost adjustments, you could go T1 T2 and straight T4 for medium armor or first get T1 T3 for light vehicles and then T4 for medium armor.
These are just my thoughts feel free to comment and point out anything I missed or not getting right |
So this was a game with small number of units on my side always had few units favoring tech first got kunbel without the use of a light vehicle.
Later faced the dreaded Stuka that got both destroyed by a suicidal sherman totally worth it, then at gun slowly crawled and killed the OKW flack truck and somewere in the middle of this an ober squad got wiped on retreat and dropped the valuable LMG only had pathfinders nearby so what the hell it actually works really well LMG kills or drops the health of the models so low that the pathfinder snipe goes off was a fun game |
I have some experience playing with both US and Soviet in 2v2.
When soviet I usually go for T1 into T4 or T3.
T1 for m3 to kill kunbel and displace Hmgs, T4 for fast Kathy usually with a T34-85 doctrine or IS-2, if I go T3 that means either ML-20, B4, ISU or IS2 doctrines
Don't really like T2 opening I prefer the m3 mobility and the penal dps boost in the early game don't care much for sniper either, may back tech to T2 later for At guns if facing Jagdtiger/elephant anything else can be handled with SU-85 or call in tanks
As for US strats depend a lot on doctrine choice, but usually have to get LT for M-20 to kill kunbel unless you have mechanized and get the jeep at 1 cp that's about when you start to tech for LT so you skip LT and go straight for Captain and later major.
If you only have the stock doctrines, on big open maps its either airborne or infantry for the LMG close quarter can be armor or airborne you can put thompsons on paratroopers.
In my opinion light vehicles play a very big role in the US early and mid game
Hope this helps in anyway |
So in this game there were a lot of flanks by my conscripts and I got an Hmg and mortar.
Later on got a really nice flank on a p4 with my T34 and when the opponents used packs just flame arty on them they got decrewed in middle of map and we won
I went T1 for penals and m3 my ally went T2.
|
Hi in this game the OKW did the usual blob around the center of semoisky it was a tough fight until I got ML-20 out that thing was always getting squad wipes it even finished a panther later on.
Was using the guards with ppsh doctrine just sad that soviet infantry is so weak (at least thats how it feels) you pretty much have to rely on arty or tanks to fight infantry in the late game |
Hi all been reading a lot of suggestions on the soviet Tier system, came up with my own opinion, don't seem to find a similar post so I though would share it.
Start by making soviet T4 similar to US T4 with TD and medium tank in same Tier so T34/76 changes with SU-76 making T3 all about Light vehicles, obvious cost readjustment of Tier 3 and 4 is required.
This would give the soviet light vehicles a bit more spotlight make it so they cant be built any sooner than a US Halftrack otherwise it would just be completely OP.
So soviet early tech system would remain the same T1 or T2 but after building one Tier you would unlock T3 after Building 2 Tiers you would unlock T4 so you could go T1 and T2 into T4 or get T1 and tech to light vehicles, T-70 spotting for SU-76 could prove difficult for a puma to handle, or just a cheap Halftrack for reinforcement.
I suppose there is the danger of light vehicle spam into call in, like a bunch of quick T-70 and wait for whatever Heavy tank you can call in
So what you guys think? Are there many obvious flaws with these suggestions that I just cant see or what? |
