I think that this isn't a bad idea. Of course, two flamethrowers on one squad is broken, but having a 5-man pgren squad w/ flamethrower and smoke grenade would be really great. As far as I know, smoke barrages on mortars can still be bugged, and the only access Ostheer has to smoke is via the mortar, mortar HT, Panzer Tactician, and Stuka smoke barrage, all of which are doctrinal. A Forward HQ commander could be useful especially in team games. The manpower blitz could be changed to a supply drop, either the optional fuel/muni one or the Soviet lend-lease fuel drop. Incendiary barrage for the mortar is interesting; should be only one round like the mortar HT. Idk how I feel about the bombing run. I'd rather have that replaced with a command P4 or the light artillery barrage. Could have both of those in place of the bombing run/incendiary strike. In: COH2 Balance |
Thread: 1V1 Ranked matchmaking22 Mar 2016, 23:27 PM
The problem is that when you launch into a game of 1v1 of coh2, even if your elo rank is equivalent to your opponent's, you won't have a fifty percent chance to win. As ranks fluctuate, different units come into play, different strategies, commanders, etc. The last game I lost was when I was above rank 2,000. It was on semoskiy winter against soviet industry tactics. Now, at that stage in the meta (about a year ago, I believe) soviet industry was almost never seen in 1v1. Or, at least, I had not encountered it in quite a while. I was on the back foot, wasn't as good as I was now. Using Gren/fausts and PaK40s to counter multiple T70s is hard. Then came the T34s and it was just unstoppable. I've come quite a ways since then; watching ESL has helped, I think, but it was definitely a frustrating match. So much so that I remember it vividly. My opponent's infantry micro was terrible but I was so scarred into thinking that ostheer can't be aggressive and that I must maintain my little bubble of defense on semoskiy. Anyway, you can't assume that there's a 50% chance of winning among equal players. Shit happens that you don't expect/prepare for, RNG can be unmerciful, or you can be tired af but still playing coh2 because you've got nothing better to do with your life. In: COH2 Gameplay |
Thread: 1V1 Ranked matchmaking22 Mar 2016, 18:16 PM
Is it just me or is the 1v1 matchmaking somewhat off? Matchmaking is heavily influenced by the players online at any time. It can go to as low as 2,000 but can be as high as 10,000 at times. ELO ranks aren't necessarily and indication of skill, either. Because they fluctuate with every game (except maybe the top 10?) there is no anchor point one can really judge their skill. There was a time, before the ladder changes, that my Ostheer rank was in the low 400s. Went on a twenty-some loss streak and went to 2200, then leveled back out at around 1,500. Recently, I've lost to players who are a few hundred ranks below me, but I've also beat players just over 100 (about 200 ranks above me). In: COH2 Gameplay |

Thread: 2016 Roadmap 20 Mar 2016, 20:18 PM
Kyle today in the ESL EU twitch chat stated the Roadmap for 2016 is tentatively scheduled to be released in April...probably late April. He also stated they are working on completing the 2015 roadmap first. If I remember, the ONLY thing on that roadmap not completed was... OPtimization would help! I played six 1v1s a few nights ago and realized, in the fifth one, that my fps at the beginning (when very little is happening) was barely above 40. Restart my game for the next match and my FPS broke 100 a few times in the first 5 minutes!!!!! In: Lobby |
Thread: Rocket artillery vs. Howitzer artillery20 Mar 2016, 19:19 PM
Howitzers aren't used in competitive play because they're too expensive and underperform vs. Rocket artillery. As Kallipolan mentioned, rocket artillery saturates the target area. Howitzers seem good in campy games against friends or AI where you need to smash defensive positions; they're good on those modded maps w/ popcaps of up to 300 where popcap isn't an issue. I don't think in coh1 there were howitzers present in competitive play, although I cannot say for certain. Krotentoten, I have to disagree with you about rocket artillery. If a calliope can wipe two obers next to each other, then so be it. If it's the first barrage, that's some good play by the USF player. If it's fifty minutes into the game and the calliope has been around, that is the fault of the okw player. A panzerwerfer will not kill a full health rifle squad at full range. With no sight, the scatter is huge. Even with sight, the max range scatter is huge. When you drive up to the minimum range, the scatter is reduced. That's acceptable. The Wehr player is taking a calculated risk. Maybe reducing pwerfer suppression or increasing its scatter would be good for balance, idk. In competitive play, especially 1v1, on-map howtizers aren't used that often and for good reason. OP mentioned something about howitzers being more accurate the longer their barrage lasts. That's fine and dandy and I assume you mean to account for artillery observers directing fire IRL. The game already implements that; scatter for indirect fire is reduced - on auto fire and barrage - when the target unit/area is visible to the player. In: COH2 Balance |

You've just got to attack ground. Works with the scatter values and all. Unless if there's a bug, everything should be working as intended. In: COH2 Balance |
