Comet is better rounded and doesn't suffer the atrocious penalties while moving unlike the Panther which needs to face with all three MGs to get some respectable, if more consistent AI in. Furthermore, while Comet doesn't get as powerful veterancy it gets god-like WP shells that nuke ATGs and infantry and that DOT will kill.
The Ostheer Panther in most cases doesn't offer much however, as T3 Stug Gs deal DPS much better, are cheaper, and the Ostheer Panther itself is terrible at its role at chasing/running down vehicles and any misses penalize it's long reload and mediocre damage. It's not even that great at killing heavies/advanced medium which is part of its role given it outranges them and has good penetration, but lacks damage.
I've always used a Panther like a Jackson. I think its moving accuracy is fine. Comet is more certainly a better tank at fighting infantry, and the WP shell isn't much to do with the tank itself as it is to do with the power creep of the newer factions which is for a whole series of threads on their own. Panther has 50% moving accuracy (which is standard, yea?) whereas comet has 75%.
I think the comet and panther have separate roles. If I need to kill infantry as Ostheer I don't get a panther. |
Lol, Panther underperforms?
It's superior to the comet, especially when reaching vet 2/3. Panther is fine. T4 is good if you don't lose tanks, but sometimes you've got to lose tanks and be aggressive. |
Wait did allies really win all 5 games? |
Why must we try to play God? |
Lots of good ideas here, and I've been thinking about it as well. I first played coh1 ten years ago and my oh my have I loved it.
That being said, one of the main attractions I have to coh is the WWII setting. Starcraft and it's sci-fi/future setting don't appeal to me, nor does another modern/future war game appeal to me.
In a general gameplay sense, I'd like to see a more lethal infantry game with less focus on veterancy on more on positioning, micro, abilities, etc. I'm not saying I want the Blitzkrieg mod or anything, but hell, a more lethal game would be a lot more fun.
If Relic can invest the time/money into it, a good way to do a Europe WWII game would be to have two different time periods: a 1941/2 and a 1944/45 or simply a early war and late war (so they can fudge the numbers a bit).
If implemented in coh2 it would've allowed the game to launch with four factions, two wehrmacht and two soviet. The different era factions wouldn't be able to play against one another, but they would be similar in design (similar so that they'd be recognizable) but with different infantry equipment and tanks. So the early war Wehr wouldn't have Pgrens w/ StG. 44, or Panzerschreck.
With other factions, it would've allowed the UKF to have a North Africa sort of army and a 1944/45 army, same with the USF.
Also, whoever said side tech, shout out to you. We need more side tech for all factions to give us choices. |
Afternoon bears, I'm interested in joining. I know that COH2's heyday has kind of passed but it's still my favorite game. I'm more of a WWII buff rather than a great player but I'm ready to learn. I've got a bit over 350 hours on the game but that's all campaign and co-op. I think I'd like to break into competitive play and I'd rather run with a pack than go it alone. My steam name is: Königstiger
Sounds good, man! Hop on teamspeak sometime (theangrybears.com) and ask some people for a game! We have Bears doing some other things now, but we still have a few that play coh2! |
Competitive match, with a surprise ending on Hamlet! buddy and I rank 868, opponents ranked 93 and 594 according to CELO.
Fast paced action and some great micro. Definitely worth a short cast |
Wow so much hate on the Stug E.
Both Stug and T70 shouldn't be compared just because they're good at killing infantry.
The T70 is a harassment and scout vehicle. The stug is not. It's an anti-infantry vehicle at its core and used to destroy enemy positions.
I must congratulate Relic on eliminating the stupid T34/85 call in meta that was Ost v Soviet. So many games were lost when I decided to build a P4 to press my advantage and then get stomped on by double T34/85s. (I wasn't as good at the game as I was then, admittedly, but still).
The call-in meta has come a long way from what it was. I'm not really sure of the best solution and anything I'd say would just be reiterating previous points made, and any radical solution wouldn't be implemented by Relic into the game anyway - I was surprised at how they shuffled units around in OKW's trucks. |
I don't understand why I'm on either of these lists.
I get rekt hard by anyone in the top 100. |
It would be nice if factions weren't necessarily identical, but had more than a single type of non-doctrinal infantry that plays different roles. Wehr and Soviets have that in Grens/Cons and penals/Pgrens, but the problem w/ WFA is that there are volks and rifles.
Blobbing w/ Airborne co. is good; pathfinders for sight, airobrne w/ m1919s and a crazy BAR blob w/ Jacksons behind it is good.
Volks blobs aren't as cancerous as they used to be thanks to the removal of the schreck but the sturmpioneer does too much w/ the Schreck, Sweeper, and Flamethrower.
I for one would like to see an added importance to cover and a higher lethality in general, with less emphasis on infantry veterancy. That would make coh2 more like it's original form, showing the brutal eastern front and whatnot. An increase in lethality and better suppression platforms would help a lot, I think, in dealing with the blobberino. |
