Ostheer is in a strange spot. Ostheer lategame is fine, but their midgame is just weaksauce. All allied factions can choose between getting side tech upgrades or rushing out higher tech units. Ostheer is forced into an all-inclusive linear tech. Fausts, grenades, LMGs and panzerschreks are all 'unlocked' through standard teching. They also don't really have a good light vehicle tier like Soviets/USF but instead have a 'medium+' tank tier. What ends up happening is that Ost simply loses too much map control due to enemy light vehicles. It delays T3 a lot and it makes going for T4 nothing more than a pipe-dream. The 222 buff helped a bit but 222s are still poor vehicles that aren't really threatening at all thanks to their broken coax machine gun that does not fire half the time. Even if you do manage to kill the enemy light vehicle, your 222s (you pretty much always need two) can't really do anything else and will just die sooner or later (they only remain useful against Brits because of their lack of snares). They really need to fix that unit.

I've seen some strange things concerning that last bit of HP. Once after a match I fired 5 panther rounds at a Soviet sherman tank (5*160 damage vs a 800hp tank) only to have it survive with a sliver of health remaining. |
In the past I received some requests on how to beat Bofors/emplacement play. Unfortunately it has been a long time since I faced anyone using it 1v1 and was not able to show how. Thankfully today I finally faced an opponent going for it, so I figured I would upload the replay. Hopefully this can help some of you that are struggling with emplacement play.
My strategy:
I opened up with early sniper and grens to put a lot of pressure on my opponent. Once I saw he went for bofors I only made the units I needed to secure the flanks. I did not try to counter the emplacements early with mortars or AT guns, instead, I invested in 2 fuel cashes that allowed me to get heavy armor and rocket artillery out very fast. This allowed to me easily engage his fortified position without having to worry about AT guns hurting my tanks too much.
Also note how his mortar pit did almost nothing this game. Like any other arty piece, you can hear the shells from the mortar pit coming and I dodged most of them. So can you! |
Yeah, pathing is pretty massed up.
I noticed this first once when I wanted to set up some sort of a 'patrol' between point A and B with one of my tanks. I shift-clicked A and B a few times, but the tank only drove like 70% of the distance between point A and B before turning around each time, never actually reaching point A or B. |
The Soviet M3 is actually quite a bit stronger. It's more manouverable and you can use a flamer unit with it which is just soooo much better than just a rifle squad. |
I'd say that the WC-51 just needs some increase in its acceleration and turning speed. The thing is not usable on most maps because it just gets stuck on everything and can't run away from danger. |
I think it's fine. Nothing is more satisfying than having your T34/76 go out of control, circle a KT at full speed and getting the killing shot on his rear armor. |
I have to say that there were quite a few things that you did wrong that cost you the game.
- You overextended your forces while there was a stuart on the field, which resulted in the death of your sturmpios. You never rebuild your sturmpios and thus you were very vulnerable to mines, which ended up wiping your Obers.
- No counter arty to his PAKhowies. LEIGs are pretty good at countering PAK howitzers.
- No armor. A P4 would have been great. You say it does not work because of zookas, but all he had was 2 zooks on his captain. He spend all the rest of his ammo on BARs and did not have any AT guns, but instead made a second PAK howie to counter your no-armor strategy.
On a side-note I think you should always go for the Panzer 2 on an open map like this. It's just a lot better than going medtruck. To me going med truck on an open map is like going for snipers on the old Stalingrad map; it just doesn't work that well. Not vs USF at least.
On another side-note: I do think call-in tanks need another looking at. |
I hate this guy. His smiley face lures you into a false sense of security and then sucker punches you with a whirlwind of insults. He should at least change his name to a frowny face! |
Again...I wreck British most of the times. I want to play as them as and not be forced to go defensive because going non-defense is counter productive. Try being less narrow minded...
Nobody is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to play defensively. Just tech AEC and get some commandos instead of a mortar pit. |
