the hilarious thing about this is Soviet players actually have no choice but to maxim spam and you all know it, anything else means OKW imba units coming faster, Soviets have no other counter to OKW inf, snipers and clown cars just do not work, if you don't suppress OKW inf it will kill you, its really as simple as that.
If relic do anything about maxim they will have to do shit loads to cons so they are usable against OKW.
I will say though a unit cap is the only true answer in this game to achieve any kind of balance, spam has plagued the coh series since its release back in 2006. |
I have lost back to back games against OKW as Soviets against the same players I beat with wehr, even using tier 1-2 build or maxim spam, their infantry used aggressively is the key, it is extremely powerful, LOL at people saying Soviets attack move, with OKW infantry you don't have to, you can just march right through everything without even looking at your screen to see what it is.
I find it hilarious when people complain about the IS2, yes its now a heavy tank instead of a hopeless fuel eating glorified T34, I don't think either Axis side can really complain about late game units. |
OK first off the only way that 1 ubermensch squad can kill 2 vet 3 rifle squads is if you were to run them both squads up to the ubermensch in negative cover. Even then its a little hard to believe that BOTH squads would be killed in less then 5-10 seconds. Maybe this was the case if both the Rifle squads were already injured, then i can imagine that they could die that quickly. (there is a reason why healing with the ambulance is just as important as reinforcing)
also we need to know if his squad was upgrade with the StG44's?
but keep in mind that the squad costs 400mp to build and the cost (I think) 45mp to reinforce? so even killing 1 or 2 as long as your losses is less then 3-4 is almost a fair trade especially since by the time they come out the OKW player will be really strapped for resources.
The easy answer to this is simple. use vehicles to counter. the M20 Utility Car, M15A1 AA Half-track, M5A1 Stuart, are all excellent at killing infantry and much like the Panzer Grens (before they upgrade to shreks) i don't think they have any AT weapons to defend themselves.
all you have is infantry they you first have to make sure you are using cover any time you engage them. If you can use abilities like grinades (if you can get close enough) suppressing fire, and if you have upgraded to Brownings defensive stance. If you dont have the commander that gives you brownings use the tier 2 M2HB .50 cal Machine Gun Team. if you went with the airborne commander use Paratroopers, who are slightly cheaper and can put out as much or more damage if upgraded with their LMG's
The BAR is an ok upgrade only if you dont have access to the Bowning.
here is how I would handle that same situation.
1. my 2 squads (each equipped with browning's) comes across the ubermensch squad.
2. i immediately move them to cover or fall back if no cover is available. (mind you i didn't say retreat, just fall back to some cover)
3. assuming i was able to find cover I would throw grenades if they were in range.
4. regardless if i could throw a grenade or not i would eventually move one squad back out of range while the other holds ground and covers. with the falling back squad I would find cover and assume defensive stance
5. then i would take the squad that is holding ground and either fall back to the squad in defensive stance or just retreat to save the squad.
6 if the ubermensch keep advancing they will get into range of the squad in defensive stance and be suppressed.
note: this only works as long as there aren't other units supporting the ubermensch.
I have the exact problem without the losing squads, problem I have is continually giving up the map or being cut off, I cant push OKW back so I don't have the resources to get vehicles before them, or I just slowly lose to VP count down, if I change the direction of the attack he just shifts his flak track across to the area, at best I have an AT gun and maybe a single bazooka at that point but have very little map control, but that rarely manages to deal with the flak track as they have superior support infantry, from the first engagement especially now rear echelon have no real use I am being pushed back, this never really stops for the rest of the game.
this is 1v1 auto only, I play no other mode. |
great job pushing me back when you were in such a bad state, Your def not one to bloody quit are you |
this fight was pretty vicious, got a little out of my depth with the Fahu who of course was incredible
IS2 only just saved the day. |
there seriously is no counter except mg spam for Soviet OKW match |
my only viable counter to OKW, I have had a lot of trouble dealing with Ober inf as Soviets and although really tired playing this in the wee small hours of the morning ( I'm sure my opponent was also shattered), this turned into a really fun game.
I was surprised he knocked me back later when he had so few units, I thought I had him on the ropes but my tired state and his tenacious turtle defence pushed the game on to the point I got a bit concerned.
GG to you sir. |
Last I checked I didn't have to run away from every US engineer unit in coh1.
Last I checked, riflemen didn't have smoke grenades to nullify mg42s in coh1.
Last I checked, riflemen didn't beat volksgrenadiers at max range in coh1.
Last I checked, yankees in coh1 didn't get a souped up super quad at 5 minutes into the game that absolutely rapes everything.
The way you "win" as ostheer now is to:
1. get lucky and roll a map that is good for MG42s. You get semois, la gleize, stalingrad, etc you're fucked even before the game starts, might as well quit.
2. make no grens, they serve no purpose whatsoever, you won't have the munitions to use their abilities with the map control you'll have and they lose against all US units
3. Spam out 3-4 MG42s. Cover each other in a small pitiful corner of the map.
4. Tech to T2 and get a pak or a PG shrek squad and pray hard as fuck your opponent overcommits the inevitable AA HT at the 5 minute mark that will otherwise end the game for you
5. If he did overcommit and lose it, you now enter into a period of 10+ minutes of camping while possibly moving out a bit. Get several paks and or more PG squads and possibly a sniper.
6. Now that we're finally at >16 minutes into the game, if opponent is playing armored company call-in spam, get a Tiger.
Else, make PIVs. You'll now have to fight against Slugger spam that will completely destroy any vehicles you have that aren't way behind a pak/shrek wall. Good luck. But it can be done.
This sounds exactly like the issues soviet face against OKW, maybe the next patch will even out the infantry a bit when the dust settles. |
I've played 17 games now against OKW in 1v1 automatch, I've had my ass handed to me in 12 of those games by hugely aggressive OKW gameplay coupled with supply truck exploit, the only thing that has given me some measure of success is blatant aggressive maxim spam with single mortar and AT gun to shocks then KV flame tank, IS2, this has worked pretty well but its a horrible way of playing the game ( its fun really, but a bit troll like ).
I'm now on a 4 game win streak against OKW using this.
Soviet infantry is hopeless against OKW in my experience, I mean its glaringly obvious how outclassed they are, they just die like flies, drain manpower and lose the map, |
ISU was hardly the game breaker here, in fact based on its cost performance ratio this game, it would seem weak.
in fact the Puma seems to need the nerf hammer more for its AT ability. |
