Well know this;
EA's upper management has zero credibility left.
Their recent cost-cutting initiatives somewhat similar to Activision say it all.
The EA CEO are misleading both fans, gaming media, lower tiers developers and investors. Fact.
Watch this video, sum it up nicely (recent EA layoff etc.):
EA CEO P2W MTX history which are interconnected with current Relic studio leader David Littman (former EA):
In conclusion, I don't think there really is a ethical consideration if you're just fantasizing about being a commander of a military and enjoy out thinking a rival player. If that was the case, chess is racist because a white army is fighting a black army, and the white army gets to go first. xD
+1
Watch this comedy making fun of the logical fallacies in "Woke games":
The only ethical question to worry about;
1)When do games become propaganda?
2)Lazy game design or intentional manipulative?
There is a valid argument the CoH2 Eastern Front campaign plot/story is anti-soviet propaganda.
Maybe not historical inaccurate, but unfortunately the narrative design doesn’t humanize the Russians similar to Band of Brothers did with the Germans (see below).
This perceived "Relic bias" angered a lot of Russian WW2 fans which was hoping for a "neutral" BoB story/plot and not Company of Villains. They then review bombed the game on steam/metacritic..
CoH1 avoided those controversies by staying relatively neutral in the narrative design similar to Band of Brothers.
A few BoB clips where the plot/story tries to humanize the German soldiers as “Brothers in Arms” which fit the CoH brand perfectly;
The next clip could make a great "CoH3" substory that humanize the German fighter pilots:
So to conclude I don’t see any ethical problems with CoH2, except maybe the anti-Soviet story/plot.
Back in June, Chinese company Tencent Holdings purchased a minority stake in Epic Games, but it turns out that stake is substantial. Tencent snatched up 48.4% of Epic Games shares last year – that comes to around $330 million invested – and even has the right to nominate individuals to Epic Games' board of directors.
"Since the Group has the right to nominate directors to the board of Epic Games, Epic Games is accounted for as an associate of the Group." This is all laid out in Tencent Holdings' 2012 financial report, available as a pdf document through the source link below. Epic Games was the second US gaming investment from the Chinese outfit following its acquisition of Riot Games in 2011.

Relic is from Sega that is public traded. If they had bought it I think they would have been obligated to report it already
darthpaxton:
I actually looked this up when the Relic rumors started. They do their third quarter earnings reporting in early February, their yearly earnings in May, and their first quarter earnings in August. Microsoft could definitely work with Sega to hit a window. April will be the next interesting month to watch (because they would have to disclose the deal in May). If it doesn't happen in April (likely at Inside Xbox, in my opinion), they could theoretically wait to announce the deal at E3 (to be reported to investors in August).
While they are definitely beholden to investors to announce selling an asset (like Relic) during an earning's report, I don't think they have any other requirements, like advanced notice or immediate notification if a deal is agreed upon.
Just because the Inside Xbox programming changed, that doesn't mean we won't have exciting news for you soon! Keep your eyes peeled here and at http://ageofempires.com for the latest Age of Empires news!

My personal take on this:
Unusual to hire for key positions this late in AoE4 production.
It took Queen Duffy and Relic HR well over a year to recruit the now former AoE4 narrative lead (Bonnie Jean M).

Making fun of a guy for wanting to make a family game or having his studio not work out is kind of an asshole move.
DoW3 fans just need to read between the lines of Stephen MacDonald mocking gamers for wanting to play violent games or what political activists refer to as "murder simulators". I quote;
The founder and CEO for Heartsy Studios. Heartsy was started to make the best kids games in the world with a focus on quality, fun (obviously) and heart! No murder simulators for us!
Although Relic offered him excellent opportunities, the game Stephen was working on was based on war, and he didn’t feel it was a good fit for him and his family.
Trying to scapegoat gamers for violence in society is kinda of an asshole move.
It's also highly irresponsible and misleading for a DoW3 production leader to make these sentiments. There is no such evidence and this has been debunked many times over. From mid-90s to 2014, it was OK to be a gamer. But now the scapegoating of gamers is back with a vengeance.
Stephen is part of those "political activist" that want to censor games in the name of "social justice".
I'm sorry, for making fun of the people that kill beloved video games for no good reasons.
I'm also sorry, I'll do this again. What can I say, I'm a sinner. I like making fun of incompetent leaders.
Relic would NEVER, make fun of what they perceive as incompetent leaders? right?.
If Relic want more censorship in games, at very least they should try to stay impartial. Anything less, would be non-professional and could potential start another consumer revolt against the studio.

The Relic studio boss/GM (Justin Dowdeswell), on the left
Relic began to look for a new headquarters in 2016 that could allow the 20-year old company to grow their employees from 180 to up to 350.
"Selecting the future home of the studio was a complicated process,” said Relic general manager Justin Dowdeswell. “We worked hard to find the right space, the right neighbourhood, the right partner, and the right location for staff – down to charting every employee’s journey to the office."
"That support from the government means a great deal," Dowdeswell says. "Even though we're owned by Sega, we need to provide a business case for everything we do, and a pitch to support the rationale. It has to make sense, and that assistance helps [Vancouver] to make sense by reducing the cost of operating here."

"Having those sister studios makes us feel like we're part of something bigger. It's great for Sega, but it's also great for the rest of us"
"Sega has put a lot of trust and even expectation on the studios to define its future, to plot that course. That gave us the freedom and flexibility we really needed to bring Relic back.
Big Relic news below - BC government sources confirm growing Sega investments in Vancouver 2018/2019; Please note most current Relic jobs are from 2017 not 2018, another strong hint Sega is buying new Vancouver studio soon
