Agreed, as I mentioned on the edit, if the opponent is "wired up", a strong early game might definitely surprise him. My current strategy as German has been to suffocate the game early on so that when the SU-85 comes I am way ahead of him.
Yes. This is definitively the best way to win against russian players. Suffocate them and counter their first SU85 with an ultra-pumped army (shreks, panthers, mass of P4s, etc). |
No objection to yor analysis Bob. I suppose a SU85 early spam could easily stop my strategy. Anyway a thing is sure: the russian player is often surprised. In my first game (it was a 2v2) I was able to take down also a pair of SU85 with a good usage of mines, faust and my good panthers.
Anyway a pair of SU85, well covered with guards and Maxims, could counter me pretty well. :-/
ADDED: my first aim is, indeed, to cut my opponent's oil resources. The most good thing of this kind of strategy is that I force the enemy to micro his recruits and if he's not good at it, I can really control all the oil resources on the entire map. In such case I can negate him the possibilty to build T4 and his damn SU85s. At least it worked 2 times. I need to test it more deeply and against better players.
By the way I am considering also to run for the T3 in orderto get my first P4 faster the my first Panther and indeed faster than his first T34 or SU85. Moreover, even if he is able to build a SU85 I could rapidly run for the T2 and use shreks to ambush it and destroy it with a good use of P4. |
Well, I admitt my opponents didn't use snipers, but I suppose I can easily take them apart if I use two gren units to "charge" them. Moreover the rifle grenade is a huge danger for the snipers. Perhaps a player who see I good micro my grens, could think it would be too dangerous to waste MP on snipers.
I think a good counter should be a Maxim spam... in that case I would not bypass T2 and I will build an halftrak and upgrade it with flames. |
Did anyone try to focus on his grenadiers? I played a pair of games using 3 grenadiers and 2 MGs. I used to upgrade all my grens with light MGs and then with the G43. With 2 stars they are damn strong.
Well, with those 5 units I fought pretty good against the enemy infantry, conquering and holding as much territories as possible. Then I just spammed a pair of Panthers and a Brumbar.
Well, my enemies were not so good and I see the strategy has many weak spots. So I would like to know if someone has already tryed it deeply in more games than me. Is it a good way to surprise the russan player? |
Well, my suggestion is: do not use the sniper. Even if your micro is good and you can kill some enemies, the enemy's squads are too big to create caos in their ranks.
Basically the sniper is useful to aim at the Machine Guns and force them to retreat, then you can destroy the enemy infantry with your men. That is a good strategy with russians, 'cause the germans have just 4 men per squad and after two shots the possibility to loose the entire team forces the player to retreat his MG.
Against a russian player you have no good reasons to use the sniper. His squads are huge and they can easily spam clown cars with flames and hunt down your sniper.
My personal conclusion is: the sniper is a waste of MP. |
It could be better if you do not go for T1: save MP and fuel for the T3 and produce the T70, escort it with one or two guards and your enemy will be soon kaput. Also build T34 asap, so you can eventually stuck enemy P4s and destroy them with guards and T70. |
I think Relic should just fix the range of those guns. I mean. When I order my men to shoot an AT nade or a Faust, even if the enemy tank is far from my squad, they launch their attack anyway. I saw AT nades fly for meters and destroy that engine. Probably those weapons should have a closer and realistic range... especially AT nades. |
well if a clowncar dies to a single panzerfaust shoot it would be totally useless...why the fack would u go for it then
Well... why should I produce the german scout-car? It doesn't explode with a single AT russian granade, but after that it will be easily destroyed by rifle shots.
A clown car hitten by a Panzerfaust is still ****ing deadly for the troops nearby.
At least give the german Halftrak the same ability: to put on it soldiers who can use their weapons.

What is unbalanced? Well... there are a lot of things.
I played both germans and russians and I noticed some unbalances:
1) STUG III needs to be more effective. Make it more expensive, but give it something like good range, good damage, or an usefull ability.
2) The SU-85 must absolutely cost more. It costs like a Panzer IV but a pair of those beasts are uncounterable if well supported with infantry.
3) The russian Maxim/Mortar/Cannon should have 3 men like the germans.
4) Clown cars must explode with a single panzerfaust shot. Sometimes I hit those with 2 shots and they still alive... result: my 2 granadier squads are retreating or completely dead.
5) If russians have the 120mm mortar, give the germans something like it. I will gladly renounce to the Panzershreks for a doctrine wich give me a 120mm mortar instead of them.
6) T34 is good enough in my opinion, but mabye it should have a better frontal armor. A Panzer IV wins in a 1v1 against a T34 and this seems a little bit strange to me.
7) Give granadiers a granade wich deals more damage to enemies in buildings. In city map the russians have a great advantage with their molotovs. |
