That is an excellent point. If you have your opponent tripple capped with 6 VP's left it is save to say "GG". If the "GG" is thrown prematurely, it only makes the comeback sweeter.
As I said, feel free to shit on the actual meaning and use of the expression.
Everyone these days seems to think langauge is their personal property to bend and twist as they wish anyways, instead of a shared and consensual medium of objective definitions, meant to facilitate unilateralcommunication and understanding, so youd hardly be unusual in doing so.
So lets change the use of the expression to fit your personal definition, instead of using it universally with its consensual definition. Cos you are so special.
Maybe if enough people, wrongly and selfishly, call an apple a tomato, we should all start doing the same.
Who cares that afterwards we cant distinguish between the two anymore in language as long as your obstinacy to conform to the shared existing meaning is adopted by everyone else, right?
I mean who gives a shit what an expression or term is meant to mean, right?
Lets just use them however the fuck we personally want.
Maybe some genius will decide to use GG instead of GlHf in the start of a match too, and we will just accept that too, because who gives a fuck, right?
Lets burn all dictionaries and randomly crosslink definitions so everyone gets a different definition for each term, each time. That wilo be realoy good, cos everyone can be special then, with their own spexial definitions of things,
GG= I am about to concede, and thanks for the game.
That is the only proper use.
I know its fashionable these days to generally not give a shit about the consensual and unilateral basis of language, that is intended to ensure that all participants understand what is being said. That "I am entitled to abuse language as I see fit, because my anus is wider", but dont come crying to me when nobody understands a goddam thing you are abusing language to mean, inspite of its actual meaning and colloquial use.
Saying GG as the winner, is the equivalent of yelling "FUCK YOU" across the field at a tennis match when you are 3 sets up. Do it, fine, if you are an asshole and dgaf, but you are, categorically, "doing it wrong" and are a moron for doing so.
I don't really agree.
Like a previous poster said, if the game is obviously finished, I tend to say GG just to tell the other player that I appreciated the game and the efforts that both players put into it.
I always say GG when I am wining, for me its a compliment to my opponent and thanx for the game @ the same time.
I don't really see how that is insulting to the loser. Either typing GG first @ the end is acceptable for me.
When the game is obviously finished, for example at 10vp or base is destoyed, that's fine, I do this myself. but when you just lost a battle and not the war in the middle of the game, it's annoying.
