Thread: Officiers und der Offiziere - USSR is lackluster again23 Mar 2016, 13:52 PM What I'm about to say may sound offensive, but I distance myself from generalizations and want to assure you that I generally have good respect towards the nation I'm about to mention, but... ... russians have shittalked the game after release because it hurt their feelings. Relic should take revenge by adding the stereotypical commissar to the soviet basic tier It doesn't make a difference at this point. Metacritic user reviews were already shitbombed by plenty of pissed russians (even to this day!) I say, DO IT!!! (yes, I'm evil) On a more serious note: I think OP actually makes a sensible proposition. A commissar would give T1 more "flavor", potentially making it more attractive. Though a DoW-like "execution" ability (as suggested in a later post) goes too far, IMO. I'd prefer a more down-to-earth frontline-officer-like role for a commissar type of unit. In: COH2 Balance
Thread: 2016 Roadmap 21 Mar 2016, 22:49 PM I hope they make another faction. Some will oppose this, but I just really like how Relic give their armies "character" - voice acting, models, gameplay, each army feels unique, it's awesome! I could imagine Italians. As part of an Afrika Korps-styled army. Or, the addition of desert maps without a new faction, BUT with new uniforms for the existing factions (even though it could be extremly weird to see soviets in the sand) I also always wanted to see a 2nd Soviet faction, sth that is what OKW is to Ostheer, just for the russians/soviets. It could be some sort of Guards Army; and it could - just like OKW did for "Germany fans" - serve the more frequent requests of "Soviet fans", e.g. by including real frontline troops (sth like "Strelky"), stock T34/85s (maybe with red banner to make them distinct) etc. It could also elaborate the "themes" of the soviet army even more; just like OKW expanded upon the whole elite, heavy theme Ostheer had initially. Such themes could include an ideological factor (flags'n stuff), women's participation in the Red Army (maybe as some stationary weapon crews; seizing this opportunity, Relic could finally fix some of the female weapon crew animations [the reason female partisans were removed]) etc. etc. At the same time it would provide the normal, less-trashy-themed (conscripts) frontline soldier for the Red Army (as I said, "Strelky" or sth. like that); just like okw gave the germans their much desired field grey-uniformed frontline dudes, this faction would give the "russia fans" what they want. ^^Sry, got carried away abit But there is just so many more interesting things they could explore in this cinematic ww2 setting! Thread: AT squad for OKW with gasmask = no new voice acting needed19 Mar 2016, 09:44 AM just to clarify: I neither support the addition of an AT squad to OKW, nor do I oppose it. I merely observed that it was a popular suggestion (that also made it into some mods); Relic sometimes gives in to such popular demands (yes, they actually do! ). In case they would, I wanted to provide a simple, creative idea that would at least make such a unit unique, should they decide to add it. Especially in face of the limited possibilities to add new voice acting in between the bigger 'expansions'. Since 3 people already got confused, I added my intent to the original post. That aside, I still think a gasmasked unit could be neat. If done right. Relic's art guys have always been very talented, especially more recently. Look at how shiny the Brits are! I could really imagine them making a nice looking gasmasked model alteration with a badass portrait. Besides, the german gasmasks are pretty iconic (even though that is mostly due to WWI). Anyways, I do not insist on the addition of an okw AT squad. In: Lobby
Thread: AT squad for OKW with gasmask = no new voice acting needed17 Mar 2016, 22:07 PM hello all, again and again I've seen people write OKW should have Panzerschrecks removed from Volks and instread should get an anti-tank squad. (SIDENOTE: I am not saying I want such a change. I am neutral towards it. But my observation is that it has been asked for in notebale amounts. Relic sometimes gives in to popular demands, this is why I make the following suggestion to propose a creative and easy way to implement this in case such a change would become inevitable in Relic's eyes...) And every time an okw at squad was suggested, I was thinking: What model would such a unit use? What kind of voice acting would it have? Relic can always make new, or slighlty modified infantry models. But voice acting... they seem to only be able to do voice recording when bigger 'expansions' are made (Brits, WFA, ...). So they don't have unique, new voice acting available for such a new unit at the moment. So how to make it unique? This is where I had an idea how to make such a unit unique and recognizeable. Gasmasks. I heard that Panzerschreck troops would sometimes wear gasmasks in WWII. The idea also appeared in the Eastern front mod, where they included Ofenrohrtruppen with gasmasks. This would solve the 2 design problems when creating a new unit: 1) Voice-acting: The unit, wearing a mask, could constantly have a 'radio' voice (as it can be heard on normal units when they are far away from the current camera). I would suggest the okw weapon crew voice acting as basis. 2) Unique model: Relic would just need to create a little german gasmask, put it on the Volksgrenadier model (for example), create a new gas-masked portrait and they're done! Thread: about soviet t116 Mar 2016, 00:25 AM Somehow, whenever I saw Penals, I just though they kinda look like some suicidal anti-tank guys. Don't ask me which movie, historical footage or whatever caused this association, I don't remember anything. Anyways, this is why seeing the PTRS on Penals could be neat from a purely aesthetic/art perspective, I guess. Even though I much rather imagined them like the sort of guys who'd climb on top of tanks and throw some stuff inside, or who'd use anti-tank grenades excessively (Couldn't they just have a anti-tank molotov that smokes out the crews) In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: New Army Idea: Heeresgruppen Italien14 Mar 2016, 19:20 PM I always liked the idea of an Italian-German army. Reasons: - Imagine a relation like in CoH 1 between Volks and Grens, only this time the Volks are Italians... - Interesting unit chatter where Italians and Germans badmouth each other(like with the UKF's welsh, english, scots) - Combination of a mainly italian army with some german groups justifies adding heavier german equippment where needed - Italia is one of the bigger european countries, so... sales. - I just want to see another one of Relic's slightly stereotypical, hollywood-esque, but immensley interesting takes on the nations of ww2. And Italy offers so much in the department of being a recognizeable nation, so it would be an army with a character. In: COH2 Gameplay
Thread: No Panzer III?6 Mar 2016, 11:47 AM I like to imagine the Panzer III to come in a commander along with the Motorcycle. Early war eastern front germans had that whole light vehicle thing going on, right? I think these 2 units could represent that theme. I know I saw a bunch of photos of the german army advancing thorugh vast plains on the Eastern front with Motorcycles, so it would be a nice combination IMO. Also, there is actually a (currently unused) voice announcer line for Ostheer that talks about a Panzer III. It can be found on YouTube (some video about "unused audio in CoH 2" or sth...) In: Lobby
Thread: Relic laziness with the new brit commanders1 Mar 2016, 18:46 PM On the one hand the game has such good graphics (in my opinion), more voice-lines than other RTS games and a generally interessting approach to representing nations & armies in a cinematic way... On the other hand, there's sooo many inconcistencies - new armies have totally different portraits than the 2 eastern armies (especially in Winter), missing voice lines (the infamous "unit ready"), lazy reskins (Jaegers are reskinned Panzergrenadiers) etc. The game manages to be both immersive and unpolished-seeming at the same time :/ Relic is always better off adding vehicles or weapon crews in new doctrines, as they have generic voice responses. As for OP's complaint about the "repetition" of the commandos... I disagree. This is actually okay. Think in CoH 1 there was 3 doctrines, if a special unit like Stormtroopers was in 1 of the 3, it was in 33.3% of the commanders and well-represented. I actually think Relic should repeat some special doctrinal infantry like Paratroopers, Panzerfusis etc. These units have unique models, voice lines, and since CoH 2 has 8 or more doctrines per faction, these special units need representation in more than 1 commander to not feel "pushed aside" In: Lobby
Thread: This game is so broken !17 Feb 2016, 09:17 AM I am no expert, but maybe it would help if maps were wide enough for the number of players/units on it. If a map is narrow, one can keep his units together AND capture stuff. If a map is wide, someone who always keeps his units in one big clump will have trouble capturing everywhere at once. So logically I would think (more?) capture points could help 'force' people to spread out units. But this is just theoretical. In: COH2 Gameplay
