I'm seeing more and more OKW players use the stuka smoke just to get LOS on our units to call offmaps or just to know our positions or unit compositions, to the point the just throw smoke on my base (which they shouldn't be able to do, as no other offmap is targetable on base territories).
Was this intended?
I think ostheer's stuka smoke also have similar properties, but as they don't float ammo to spam it isn't as agravating as a non stop smoke recon.

Falls are my usual cancer. I loathe those guys.
Somehow the puma managed to counter my infantry with its speed and range and poped smoke to avoid death. A nightmare kept in check by mines and a Zis.
Also tripwire flares, because 10 ammo killing a single model of those fuckers while also giving LOS for my mortars seems like a fair trade |
After a few days with the new patch everything is slowly returning to the old blobs in 2v2.
In particular G43 grens are giving me a lot of trouble
- Its an all around upgrade that makes grens even more effective at range, improves the firing on the move damage and allows them to fight even better at close range, all while being able to charge your positions without stoping to fire. Cons get mowed down at range against them, even with green cover they just can stand against 43s in the open.
- Maxims won't stop them in time. With vet, they'll become supressed just outside the riflenade range, so they will just crawl until they are back in range and hit you while another squad shoots the surviving memebers. I'm taking ages to make them hit the dirt even using the sustained fire ability. Also, because they dont need to stop to fire like with lmgs, you can't count on your mortars to turn the tide.
Getting another maxim means delaying a Zis to deal with light vehicles or guards as a soft counter to both infantry and vehicles. They dont fear a T70 and going T4 for a T34 or a katy seems risky against the incoming Tigers or P4s.

It survived in the end with 37+ infantry kills. Could've been more if I remembered to change the ammo type every time I faced another type of target, because that thing fought against both armor and infantry hordes
I think the AP/HE ammo icon should be changed to something more intuitive. Men of War uses a red tip HE shell, blue tip Ap shell

A brutal engagement against our most hated faction.
So here is what we got
- Maxims can deal efficiently against volks, but they have a hard time against obers. Maxims win in a 1v1 engagement, but obers can tank a lot of supression. The vet1 skill is a must
- Having a hard time using the revamped volks, our oponents ressort to obers, lots of obers.
- Savior Zis-3
- While I have problems managing the ISU, due to the inexperience with the unit i work it out in the end. The beast killer saved our asses in more than one ocation.
- Guards vetted guards holding their ground with their hit the dirt are amazing. Just give them LOS so they can use their range at the fullest.

Still trying new stuff.
This time, the match allowed me to try out the revamped Zis3 barrage. It managed to wipe 2 squads because they clumped against yellow cover and repel assauts against.
Maxims seem to work fine, specially with their vet1 ability, which has a really short reload animation before it starts. As it stands, there is no reason to not use it if you spot a enemy infantry assault. Just keep cons next to her and if posible a Zis to shell supressed squads.
That being said, one has to resort to explosives and armor to get wipes, as cons, as good as they are now, cant secure any wipes with their rifles.
Still, this is the second match a stug serves as a crutch for a losing ostheer player. Last time we almost lose against a 4 stug horde deleting our amor. |

Intresting new stuff about conscritps
- They can bully around volks in 1v1 if the stand in green cover: Mollys deterr them from getting to point black range while their lava nades new fuse allows you to dodge the damage.
- They outtrade volks at max range, sometimes even at mid range if veted
T2
- Maxims can now act as the ancher of the soviet front. So its really usefull to get them as soon as posible. They pivot from side to side while cons spot and add dps to the mix.
- Zis-3: Ninja buff? they can properly aim and fire at max range, even beyond that in some cases. They also help cons to repell volks charges
T3
- T70, now that it has support weapons to synergise with has become a really usefull unit. It can park next to your support weapons and spot for them while responding to infantry menaces if needed. It will not stop an infantry assault but it will damage the models enough so that it will have few chances of success. Also a nice way to deal with obers. |
Also, the insane synergy between the new soviet mortar (vet0 flares) and other units. Lovely to have this bad boy back.
Its fun how usefull was the T70 on my side.
The KV1, being able to withstand damage allowed for more combined arms action its made up by its abysmal fire rate.
