Thread: ESL Go4COH2 cups29 Dec 2015, 12:47 PM I think they said that the kick-offs will not be used to seed this Sunday's first actual prize $ cup. I don't know why they wouldn't use the results to seed, I kinda thought that was the whole point. Maybe they will change their minds, I dunno. It seems like there are many things that you just have to wonder about until the day of the event. Will the cup on the 3rd be single-elim? How will it be seeded? Or Swiss again? A random seeded single-elim would be awful. In: Events Central
Thread: ESL Go4COH2 cups28 Dec 2015, 14:16 PM Congratz Hans and tofu for winning the EU and NA kick-off cups respectively. Use this thread to discuss the series. It was nice to see Hans going koo-koo after winning over Jove last night. I thought the Swiss system worked well for an unseeded cup. I'm still very unsure about this "map or faction" picking system with the cointoss and the Best-of-1's. I wonder how player's picking strategies will evolve. OKW seemed to dominate. In the final game, Hans had 4 quintuple-vet (lol) Volks squads, each with a 'schrek. They seemed to be the most important unit throughout the games that I watched. In: Events Central

Thread: [Relic blog] Game Balance: The State of 1v1 for ESL25 Dec 2015, 12:17 PM Tournaments are usually the best gauge of balance, but I don't know how we will get any useful data from the ESL format. One guy picks a faction, then his opponent counterpicks faction and the map. So basically everybody is gonna try to pick the most imbalanced map that favors their faction. I dunno how you could get any useful data from results of that kind of setup. Maps are also re-picked after each game in a best-of-3 and have random starting positions. This will further confuse any data we might get from this cup series, as the traditional format of playing a map twice, once from each side, with fixed positions, has been tossed out the window. I'm offended by the notion that the right to do advertising for ESL is supposed to be some kind of prize that you can win. That's utterly ridiculous.
