It's weird how I actually find open ground safer to my 4 men squads than light cover. In the open they are at least somewhat spaced, but in yellow they get so close they get insta wiped by anything, it's a deathtrap with any indirect fire on the field.
I think if heavy cover gives you 50% damage reduction against explosives, light cover should provide 25%, this would help considerably with one-shotting. However, I believe that the real issue is 4 obers being as easy to kill with explosives as 4 conscripts, and optimally that's what I'd want fixed. |
I don't find them very useful, even though I have a soft spot for them and attempt to use them from time to time.
One, long range weapons, so mg42, are superior for a variety of reasons in coh, two, the weapon is really not that great.
And then, instead of fighting allied infantry at long range which is axis comfort zone, you get a weapon which is effective at ranges where grens have no staying power and will simply be destroyed by anything but cons. The way I see it you're turning your grens into makeshift riflemen, except infinitely worse. Close range is not the place for a fragile 4 man squad, and I think that by choosing this upgrade you're giving up their strong suit. |
It does need some help. I find PIVs to be more reliable at killing infantry while obviously being great at other things. Getting a dedicated anti-infantry unit that's okay at most as anti-infantry... Ostwind is just not worth it most of the time for me. |
If you want Japan, first play soviets and use conscripts, M-42 AT guns, booby traps and t-70s only.
There, authentic Japanese experience. See how you like it. |
I am more distressed by trickery that leads to teams in random automatch. It's just super unfair to randomly matched players and should be treated like an exploit when AT exists. |
Save the time when vet 2 wehr tanks were invincible, soviets were never weak, they certainly are not weak now.
The fact that they can perform even with their core infantry being crap shows how solid they are. Cons and penals need adjusting, true, but even with those considered they are in a good spot, they don't need a total revamp you're suggesting in your biased proposals.

M3 snipers followed by M5 snipers
I think I just got something akin to a 'nam flashback
As for what I myself recall fondly - Opel blitz |

People apparently will never be happy no matter how cheap it gets, as long as t-34 is weaker than PIV. Just make it a clone of the latter for the same cost and be finally done with it already. |
Penals are just worse riflemen that you need to build a tier for.
I could never understand why they are melee range only when they have SVTs. |
I like it, though I'd go full italy instead of mixing it with german stuff, at least as far as non-doctrinal units go. Keep german support as call-ins.
I think some kind of 90/53, either as Semovente da 90/53, on a truck or static, would be enough to deal with heavy armor. And as much as I'd like to see PIII in coh, it would be a shame not to utilize the lighter vehicles Italy DID have. Even p26/40 is fine in my book - with 103 produced, would it be a stretch when Ostwinds, Pumas, Comets and Pershings are already in the game? |
