Partly true. Though that´s more a problem of the cancer commander and cancer emplacements rather than the Ostheer support weapons. Versus the British and US the Ostheer Sniper is pretty effective (which I somewhat count as a support unit).
They are a bit less cost effective and harder to blob than most of the other infantry, yet I think Ostheer is balanced more around effective support weapons rather than cost effective infantry.
I actually prefer it over the MG42 upgrade. Simply because it´s way cheaper to equip 4 Grens with G43s than the former. 4x45 ammo=180 ammo vs 4x60 ammo = 240 ammo. That´s some extra grenades or a medic bunker upgrade for free.
Also it means your Grens can be more mobile. I hate having them stand behind cover all the time not being able to chase down infantry with their full firepower when carrying the MG42.
A smaller advantage of the G43 is that it doesn´t drop. Indeed this means you can´t take it up yourself. But there are quite a few games I lost because the other player had my MG42.

Actually you are supposed to let them go. Everything else is a war crime. It´s kind of sick to see you defend such a thing. But just so you can feel how distasteful this is: I´m sure you heard of the Malmedy massacre Kampfgruppe Peiper committed? That was also because they were supposed to advance fast. The prisoners were a burden. Doesn´t make it any less perverted. Everyone who does such a thing to soldiers deserves to be hung from the next tree, be it the murderers from Malmedy or Lt. Speirs. For the latter we could consider the benefit of doubt of course. Yet the gif depicting that supposed crime... him shooting unarmed guys is still shit.
