True to that, Falls reinforce cost should only be around 60-70mp, FG42 is barely better than BAR.
I dunno, I actually think the way to go is to nerf Obers *a bit,* so that they still fill roughly the same role, but are weaker so Falls are competitive with them. Falls are pretty decent as is IMO, especially when used to flank. |
Its wrong to believe infantry unit is balanced if you need a TANK to counter it cost effectively.
Shocks are restricted by doctrine, have clear exploitable weakness, will loose to 1 gren+pgren or 1 volk+sturmpio, are completely incapable of killing anything that have retreat mark on it unless it have 10 hp left.
How many squads you need to counter obers in green cover? 5? 7?
I dislike that Obers have an upgrade that negates one of the best mechanics of the game, specifically cover, but they do at least arrive long after their counters. The US flaktrack kills them without much trouble, and that arrives like 5 minutes into the game. Also, by the time Obers are running around, the map should be full of tanks anyway.
The number of squads that you need to counter them might not be that relevant, as you're not supposed to counter them with squads, but with vehicles. It's like asking how many PAKs you need to kill a squad of rifleman.
Shocks are a bit different as they arrive before there is an easy counter available and do not require any fuel investment to get.
edit:
If it were up to me, I would change their StG44 upgrade to not negate bonus, or to only negate yellow cover, and I would remove their bonus against retreating units.
edit again:
They also shouldn't be able to fire as well on the move. I'd take away their grenades as well, maybe. They do probably need to be a little more limited. IMO there often isn't enough reason to buy Falls over Obers. |
To everyone who believes it to be overpowered:
I mean this not as a sarcastic challenge, but rather as a sincere inquiry: could you post a reply in which you use the IR half track in a way that demonstrates how it is too effective in its current implementation?
As it is, it's in the hands of a fuel starved faction with very few units to protect it, and it has zero combat capabilities. You don't need to micro the half track itself, but you do have to micro the units you use in conjunction with it. On the other hand, I understand the concerns about it.
I'd try it myself but I'm not good enough at OKW for that to be a good test.

Do they fill the role that Ostruppen are supposed to fill for Ostheer? An affordable unit that can buy time, support attacks, re-crew things, and even hurt tanks given the right circumstances. Except Volks are viable to build, whereas Ostruppen aren't, because unlike Ostruppen, they can contribute to a fight. |
Using the AT-less paratroopers after recently playing CoH I is an adjustment. Specifically, one with lots of dead paratroopers. |
Is truck camping viable? The trucks aren't that hard to kill. |
Thanks for the info, Noun!
For what it's worth, I really like this new system! One thing, though - does it have to give out duplicates? I find duplicates very frustrating with these progression systems. It was one of the most annoying things in Mass Effect 3's MP. Once you get 90% of the content, you have so little chance of getting anything new that it stalls out.

For OKW, in my limited experience, I've found that the Flaktrack (as I call it) and the Sturmtiger pretty much negate blobs. Bazookas don't do that much frontal damage on tanks, anyway. Even if a blob rolling into a Sturmtiger retreats as soon as it releases when is about to happen (oh that is a sweet moment), a blob with 3 full strength squads is gonna run out of there with two 1 man squads, if lucky.
edit - my limited experience and low ELO is actually a plus in this case, as my level is where blobs MIGHT be a problem. |
So, decided to give the new faction a spin. I played two 1v1 auto match games, both against Ostheer, oddly enough. I won both, but I'm at a low ELO, and even though I won, I had a hard time against what probably weren't the best tactics.
I kindly ask you all to avoid getting into balance arguments, although I certainly would appreciate a brief "I feel [blank] just isn't worth building at the moment."
Here goes:
1. The M10. I really don't get this unit. It costs almost the same as a Sherman, auto-targets infantry, has no anti-infantry ability, and lacks holds fire. It loses against a Panzer IV head on, and doesn't have that big an advantage even when it flanks. I try to use it against tanks that are engaged against something else, coming in from the flanks. Yeah, they've done some damage, but they're just so frail and inflexible. Why not just get a Sherman?
2. Machine Guns What's the best way of taking down an MG42? As armored, I usually try to draw their fire with rifle a bit, then sneak around with assault engineers. That seems to work just fine, but I was curious what other people usually do. As a doc other than armored, I just use other rifles. Is smoke the way to go?
3. Flame Pio blobs. Hey, stop laughing! Yeah, I know these shouldn't be hard to deal with, and it's not like they defeated me, but they caused more trouble than they should. I found that my rifles without BARs just didn't have enough DPS to cut them down before they got close. Should I just remember to get BARs in the future? Or keep a Flak halftrack around? Are machine guns good to keep on hand?

While they had plenty of T-34's (mostly early versions captured in the invasion), the Germans didn't have many Shermans. Instead, they improvised, the below image is a Panther Tank mocked up to look like a US Tank Destroyer, primarily the M10. They worked well enough that the crews had to come up with signals to prevent from from getting confused and shooting each other.
There was one instance where the Germans used a few dozen (IIRC) captured Shermans in a temporarily successful surprise attack - not sure how typical that was, but enough basis for it to exist in a doctrine.

When the attack ran out of steam the captured Germans were executed because they used US colors in the attack, hence why it came up in a book about prisoners of war. |
