I'm very pleased to see that the update has reconsidered the weapon for the Partisan. MP44 is definitely not my first thought for a Partisan squad to have. MP40 is arguably not the most common either but it certainly is better. Now I tested them out with a few AI matches and here are a few things I've noticed about their new camouflage.
1) Even without any cover, they will remain camouflaged, but since they currently do not have hold fire, they will break out of their state as soon as they come within engaging distance (which is quite far).
2) Even when building, they will remain in camouflage. This means magical wires setting themselves up for the opponent as well as mines.
3) Any crew weapons they grab will gain the camouflage effect. Camouflaged Pak40, anyone? TWP OUTTA NOWHERE.
4) Weaker weapon made them a lot less "Run and GUn" but ambush based instead. Had a few tested scenario when they attacked by breaking out of camouflage close up (don't ask me how I got past the fact they didn't break out of camo before getting close, I used dark magic) and it is quite effective. Now imagine that with a mine previously set up? Squad wipes before the opponent can even react!
Should point 1, 2, 3 be kept how it is? Or is that too good to be true?
Edit: Personally feel that the Partisan should suffer the same penalty the sniper do from scout cars and such. They are similar now that camouflage is their unique advantage.
I am very pleased with the new change to partisans. MP44 sounded really silly and the fact they have taken steps to make it MP40 is convincing me that the staff do pay attention to our complaints.
Mmm...I can taste the camouflage already, all those close up shooting is going to be great.
Don't get me wrong, I am all for Partisan getting buffed. In fact, I think it is a well-deserved improvement. You can tell by my ID that I do have my bias, but I don't want that to get in the way. The last thing I need is a buff that only lives a patch before being slapped back into the same state it was before. A slight tweak, enough to give an edge without rustling jimmies is all I ask.
I think I've stated something similar to Alexandr but I always thought it might be due to the dev group being too busy to really make them anything new. My biggest gripe is still the serious disillusion that MP44 brings. I highly doubt it is a weapon an average Partisan can get their hands on.
StG's doesn't make sense, they should be armed with SVT-40's (with good stats) or maybe 4x Conscript PPSh, since those are getting range buffed so they're hopefully no worse than the Mosin at long. Maybe even both, option to switch back and forth for extra versatility. Still think it would be cool if they were self-sustaining and could ambush as well, I'm not sure how to go about it, but once they retreat they become just another part of your Army.
I'd say SVT or PPSh is a good idea but bringing the concept back that the Partisan use stolen equipment, I ended up thinking MP40 is better. Although now that I think about it, G43 would be a pretty neat idea. Reminds me of how I suggested giving Partisan a more "assassin" based style, allowing snipes and attacking targets of opportunity.
For a 210 manpower unit, their performance in the preview patch was a touch strong in my personal opinion. While the gun they hold in the patch is just "air guns" (It was funny, they could just be shouting pew pew pew with their fingers) but they take down opposing forces rather swiftly. I tested their engagement with Pioneers, Grenadiers, Panzer Grenadiers, Sturm Pioneers, Volksgrenadiers and Obersoldaten. Keep in mind that the ranges were only close to semi-mid ranges since most of the time engagements with this unit would be so, grenades were not included but chances are Partisans may have an upper hand in this case since they retain both molotov and grenades at the moment. No upgrades are included either.
The results were roughly:
I was quite shocked by their current performance, taking into account how cheap they are, they excel units that share or are above their price tag. Another issue about Partisan squads is that they gain veterancy rather swiftly, pioneers pushing them to near Vet 1 while any other would be a sure vet. It would only take 2 to 3 engagements before they hit Vet 2 where their low survivability issue is compensated.
Personally, I find the implementation of MP44 as their stock weapon as something quite silly. The guns are not as readily available as one would think. MP40 would have made much more sense and the compensation for the lack of damage can be compensated by returning the Partisan's accuracy back in line with other units...or at least a little better.
Ostheer Mortar definitely is the bane of battle positions. I don't understand why you would think they take so long considering the grw43 is regarded as turbo mortar. 20 seconds if you supervise the bombardment twice.
AT guns can also snipe them if given vision. Shrecked volks definitely can.
