You can go up and down the ladder fast in this game. I dunno, maybe a better idea to just automatically eliminate anyone who made quarter-finals in all COH2 couple tourneys held so far. Probably the winners would be obvious if they have high rank but haven't done tourneys, but whatever, at least it would be a change of faces...

I like it so far but we didn't get to tanks so not sure how the pathing issues play out. I'll try to have a longer game on it.
One thing I do not like is the ANGLE of the moonlight when it rises. It's way too sharp and since the moon isn't visible in the sky (actually the sky is more light in the wrong place, toward the southwest I think) it just looks weird from a horizontalish viewing angle. The blue is also quite a bit jarring at start. It's not the right shade for night...Not sure if you can do anything about that, but maybe add some dark purple.
I think you could do with some green cover near the north base road. I base pinned my opponent early and he had absolutely no chance of getting anything out on that road, everything just got shredded. Very similar to Langraskaya before they added some green cover for north.

I second Barton's suggestion if two divisions couldn't be organized. What is my incentive to play a tournament with seeds if I know I won't make it past round 2? At least create small prizes for getting to the seeded player stage (usually round 2).
I play all modes, I do see good micro among some 4v4 players, but they all have complexes about 1v1, and more incentive might help get some of them in. Again, I don't think this game has a high skill cap, what separates Barton, OMGPop, etc from the 50-200 ranked 1v1 intermediate bracket is micro, multitasking, and unit preservation, not strategy or tactics. And there are surely many other COH2 players with really good CPM and micro out there...

1) Would rather do a 2v2 tournament.
2) RNG too great a factor in COH2. The game pace (most matches end in under 30 minutes) mean less of a chance for it to even out, and many of the causes of really bad RNG won't be repeated anyway (Soviet mines, flamethrower crits, mortar squad wipes, ram success).
3) Time commitment to complete games. Reddit tourney is doing it the right way. If you make it to the semi-finals you should expect to do them in a short, professional time period, but below that, no 3 hour time commitments for a casual RTS, thanks.
4) Seeds. I understand we don't want heavyweights knocked out in the first rounds, but it's too discouraging.
If there are enough 1v1 players, I agree that it would be really beneficial to have divisions based on ELO. Then there would be no need for seeds. Relic should know better than anyone want the actual skill levels are like, and two divisions might be enough (roughly the top 50 1v1 players and everyone else). To be honest though, the skill cap is really low, and the game is less strategic than vCOH, so it's very hard to differentiate the skill levels of the the top 1%, 5%, 20% etc. In my personal experience around rank 200 I see a dramatic drop-off in skill, and above rank 40 I see a dramatic increase in skill (mostly micro and reaction time).

Even the coaxial on that stupid tank is overpowered...note how when I was firing on it with my at gun I had to move it back because it kept getting decrewed just by the goddamn coaxial. So stupid. |
Here is a pair of Shock Rifle players totally deserving of a Tiger Ace. #9 Sov 2v2 dude with some random, vs me and #16 Ost 2v2 dude. Admittedly we had the higher ranked team, but as shocks only require micro that even a 3 year old is capable of, I think this is post-worthy.
I think that, upon watching the replay, you will find yourself in agreement that they got their just desserts.

Anyone...ran into some guy twice and all the freaking MGs just drive me nuts. I can't figure out a good build. Snipers help sort of but you have to flank the MGs with the snipers anyway or they just eviscerate them. |
