Hey all,
I'm interested in trying my hand at making new vehicle skins. I've gone through the wiki page and found it to be quite helpful for most of the process.
However, when I load up the PSD files, looking at all the layers involved is quite overwhelming. I was wondering if there are any guides out there to help beginners understand what layers are relevant and how to best approach them?
Cheers

I have faced this multiple times. Actually it is the most prevalent and worst kind of cheating in this game. Um, ok. Well, you've completely ignored the technical points I made. You skipped over the whole trust rating system, which almost completely negates the benefits of drop hacking if you do it more than once. Seriously, it's been around since COH1. So I'd hardly call it the 'worst' kind of cheating. Also, if you're losing connection then there's pretty much no way that has anything to do with drop hacking. Drop hacking was when players talked directly to each other so they blocked your incoming data to confuse the game. That's now physically impossible. All players only see a server, not other players. Even DDOS stuff (which costs money) would require finding out your IP, which is probably impossible for the same reason. And all of that is way harder than finding a way to force a simple sync error. Seriously, they happen for so many reasons. One recent patch was to stop the game having sync errors when someone quit normally. In a nutshell, it sounds like your Internet connection (or how your setup uses it) sucks and you've got a bad case of confirmation bias. In: Lobby |

Credit to them for explaining why all duplicates will receive the same amount of supply. That was definitely a point of contention. In: Lobby |

Map hacking is using a hack to remove the fog of war so that you can see everything your opponent does. It's probably the only effective way to hack this game, since anything else not prevented by sync with the Battleserver would be highly noticeable in the replay anyway. Drop hacking probably isn't really a thing anymore now that Battleservers exist. When the game was P2P, people who were losing could block other players' packets to confuse the system as to whether someone was connected or not. While annoying as hell, the trust rating system meant that you'd almost always get the win anyway, unless your connection frequently dropped as well. Now that Battleservers mediate the match and everyone's connections, people only screw themselves over if they block packets because the game keeps playing for everyone else. This means that only forcing a sync error somehow would be effective. But once again, the trust rating system means you'll almost always get the official win anyway (even if it says you lost at the end of the match). In: Lobby |

I inserted a new section called 2.9) Page File Size I've been finding that several people have experienced crash issues related to a combination of insufficient RAM and page file size on their hard drive. This should help such people resolve that. In: Lobby |
Thread: GTX 1080 New PC Build26 May 2016, 02:56 AM
Go: I7-4790k and there's plenty of motherboards out there but I'm actually an Amd fan telling you this. Intel is stomping Amd right now. Good luck with the build. While either is a good choice (both have a base clock of 4Ghz and can be overclocked easily), the i7-6700K is much newer and uses 14nm lithography compared to 22nm. That should theoretically make it a lot more power efficient. It also supports newer tech with higher throughput like DDR4 and DMI 3.0. Newer hardware will probably be easier to come by as well. From what I've read, you definitely want high CPU clocks when dealing with the GTX 1080. And you definitely want them to try and run bloody COH2 at above 60fps In terms of a matching motherboard, I won't lie, the options are overwhelming. However, for the i7-6700k you want one from the Intel Skylake 1151pin family, with a model name starting with 'Z' (denotes performance grade). e.g. Asus Z170-K or Gigabyte Z170-D3H. I find Newegg reviews useful for indicating which is best, although a lot of it is also them just talking about how crap consumer rights are in the US. For the most part, they're very similar and just full of marketing crap. You largely just need to make sure it has all the input/outputs you think you need (such as USB3.0/3.1, m-Sata for SSD boosts, and PCI-express port sizes/numbers for expansion cards). Even then, few of them matter to gamers. Hell, the biggest factor is often how sexy you think it looks! Definitely get an SSD for your Windows/games drive at least. 500GB +. I'm a fan of the Samsung 850 EVO series. If you're also looking for a new monitor, I strongly recommend you check out Dell Ultrasharps. They won't give you 144Hz refresh, if that's what you're after, but their quality is second to none that I'm yet to come across. The sexiest I've ever seen COH2 is on a 2560x1440 27" Ultrasharp. |

Are you able to upload higher quality pictures please? (Is anti-aliasing turned off?) Most of these ones seem to be low resolution and high compression. I'd like to see the skins in their best quality! |
Thread: WAR SPOILS OPEN BETA CLOSING NOTES24 May 2016, 02:55 AM
Guys, why are you all crying? Western Front Armies 2014 Ardennes Assault 2014 British Forces 2015 Curated Items 2016 The initial game platform is over 3 years old, but that's arguably a very small part of the current money-generating product. They said themselves they had a 5-year plan for the platform. These warspoils changes (though definitely not as strong as I would argue they should have been) will likely add slightly more perception of regularity and player-control that may make players more comfortable purchasing from the store. Sure, there are plenty of games out there that get abandoned quickly, but COH is one of those precious games with amazing replayability and visual/audio immersiveness that keeps people coming back. But for whatever (presumably managerial) reasons, Relic's support for the game tends to lack the consistency required to produce a polished experience, and this leads to people getting upset, even if disproportionately (it is the Internet after all). The current rolling balance mod has been a welcome step in the right direction, however, even if enabled by outsourcing a lot of the thinking to the community. In: Lobby |

Thread: COH2 Steam Workshop Curated Items Appreciation Society22 May 2016, 06:30 AM
Hi all, I've seen appreciation threads for individual content submissions, but I wanted to create one where people can discuss any content coming up, currently in the queue, or has already been accepted by Relic. This might help to increase community awareness of the offerings out there. I'm quite keen to see curated items become a success, as Valve's experiments have shown that it can be a great way to secure ongoing support for a game, tournaments, and its community. Crowdsourcing content also I've just gone through the curated items queue (about 28 items currently) and I'm largely impressed. There's only one faceplate submitted so far (Janne252's COH2.org variety), which is surprising since I would have thought these would be the easiest to produce. However, looking at the 'ready-to-use' queue shows that about 99% of the existing ones are anime-based... The skins were thankfully given a strong start courtesy of the War Paint competition. So far everything in the current queue waiting for approval is of a relatively immersive look with camouflage-based designs. That will please plenty of people, but given that Relic have already added an option to hide non-historical designs in matches, I'm keen to see some more heavily stylised ideas. Personal favourites: I've noticed that I have a preference towards design bold designs with clean lines between the patterns that contrast well and still stand out well when your camera is not zoomed in. 'Murky' patterns just don't do much for me. Vector Dark - British ForcesI love the clean, dark lines in this one. Very striking. OKW Three-Color Summer CamouflageThis one has a surprising amount of variance from vehicle to vehicle that people might find divisive. The creator may have benefited more from making separate packs out of such distinct patterns. People who want variety in their army should like this one though. I like most of the designs, finding the patterns to be bold and clean with classic camo colours. US Olive Drab SummerWant some cold, hard military utilitarianism? Look no further. So what's caught your interest lately? In: Lobby |
