The IS-2: What do we do with it?

Costs 640MP 230F, same as Tiger 1 IIRC.

The IS-2 has KT armor, decent mobility, a good AoE cannon but is rather inaccurate. It is one of the few remaining callin tanks of the game, and has seen decent playtime now since shock troop and the KV-8 have been buffed, making shock rifle one of the better soviet doctrines. The tank itself is rather balanced if I do say so myself, but inconsistancies should be looked at.

What I want to know is if we were to change this tank, what would you change? The 375 armor? Gun accuracy? Price? Tieing it to tech?

The Vet 1, absolutely. I do not want my 230FU unit sitting in a cap circle with no gun.

As Vip said, vet adjustments. The unit isn't bad, but vet 2 before it's starting to improve at all is a joke. An HE shell with wide AOE (but similar lethal area) would be nice, or even the inspire thing they tried to tack onto the kv tanks.

Gun should get Brummbar-like AI profile with big AOE health damage but less instant model drops, so scatter can be buffed a bit. Make the gun reliable and consistant rather than a coin toss between either a complete miss or wiping (half) a squad.

IMO all heavy tank guns should be standardized like this.

Vet 1 changed to something useful, for example inspiring presence like KV-2.

Smoke launchers at vet 1 would be nice, as oppose to capture point. Although its mounted MG needs to be less accurate vs aircraft. (same with the KT).

Other than that, i dont think it needs changing if im honest.

With the veterans the IS-2 is not so bad, but there is a problem: the reliability of the main gun - it does not cause damage, no damage - veteranship. It is necessary to improve the reliability of the main gun.
Change the 1st level of veterans, here are a few options:
- BR-471B - improved armor-piercing projectile
- smoke shell

Genuine question: is this thread about the IS2 being too bad or too good?

Abstracting from bias:
1. Reduce the armor. Despite IS-2 was a real nightmare for Germans and had a good armor protection, it never was on par with King Tiger in that case.
2. Increase it's damage. IS-2 had a real slow reload time, but it was compensated by amazing firepower.
In game, IS-2 has a slow reload, but doesn't have amazing firepower.
3. Change it's vet 1 ability. It can be HE single shot, like miragefla proposed, or grenade throwing from the hatch. It should match with role on the battlefield - heavy assault tank.

Yeah the capping ability is actually good in low VP late game situations. Kinda hard to stop a IS2 from capping a VP which can decide the game.

Dont touch heavy tanks unless you tie them to tech. Or you will break the game again.

Im with Osinyagov, IS2 could be a real hard hitter, and armor reduced to compensate.

Even though there are many super heavy tanks for SU, IS2 should be the one who shines the most IMO. Its iconic and it would be fine for that to transalate somehow into the game.

Imo many heavy tanks should have their armor/HP lowered and moved as veterancy bonus.

Veterancy bonuses and abilities should be individually designed to help the unit in their specific role.

Are you suggesting blanket vet ISN'T the way to go? But I want my elite infantry to spend their time laying trip flares like my engineers and my siege tank to disable itself to cap territory!

Seriously though... Well thought out vet has changed the game
