Thank you very much to everyone who submitted proposals and discussed this update. We really appreciate your passion for this game.
As previously stated:
- The Balance Team will present the two best proposals per faction for community voting. The wider community will be allowed to vote for their favorite selected commander for each faction.
- The Community Team will discuss, test and iterate on the winning proposals.
We have selected proposals which we feel have the best combination of an interesting theme, force/ability composition potential, and positive implications for strategic diversity.
There were plenty of great submissions, and whittling them down has been a tough process. We have tried to give credit to multiple persons/ proposals where there was a lot of overlap. If your Commander has not made the cut, please don’t be too disappointed, and once more, thanks for your time.
All winning commanders are extremely likely to undergo changes, both before the test mod phase begins, and also after receiving feedback from community testers. With some proposals, we have preemptively stated changes we would implement were this commander to win its factional vote. In one or two cases, you may see good components of the losing commander make their way into the winning commander, so long as they make sense from a thematic and gameplay perspective.
As with the Commander Revamp, it is our intention to use this update to incorporate and improve underused units and abilities where appropriate.
Before voting, please read each submission below carefully, and reference the original post(s) linked alongside them. Once you have done that, please use the link at the bottom of the pace to cast your official votes. You can abstain voting for certain factions, but will not be able to go back to add your answers once you have submitted your votes.

OKW
Anti-Tank Tactics/ Panzerjäger doctrine – By Various
Perhaps the most commonly requested theme in this entire process was an OKW commander with an anti-tank infantry option, and often additional anti-tank units. Some notable submissions showcasing this theme include Sander , Aerafield and Lago just to name a few. If this doctrine/ theme were to win, we envisage reworking Panzerfussiliers to have exclusive anti-tank and anti-infantry paths, along with a combination of suggested items in such proposals as listed above.
Grand Offensive (renamed) – By Kpen97
There were other good OKW proposals that members of the team liked, but ultimately, this submission myKpen97best caught our attention. We feel that this aggressive doctrine would allow OKW players a new composition for their line infantry, supported by a strong late game punch.
British
Lend Lead Assault Tactics – By Various
A very popular theme. Quite a few people wanted to see an aggressive British Commander offering an alternative Tommy Squad with Thompson Submachine Guns. Such suggestions often included American equipment available in a lend-lease capacity, such as the American Mortar, M10, or the Greyhound/ Stuart. We certainly think such a commander would offer a new strategic avenue for the British. Good examples of this theme include proposals by A.Soldier, Lago and RoastinGhostin
Ground Operations Regiment – By Fly1nRabBit
Fly1nRabBit’s proposal for a defensive British commander has good potential in our view. Thematically cohesive and using a combination of existing abilities in an interesting way, we feel a commander based on this template could offer multiple ways to play.
USF
Urban Assault Tactics – By Various
Numerous individuals (such as C3Tooth – post 6, nkirkpat, crexas – post 23, and Panzerfutz) suggested commanders of a similar nature. These submissions share the theme of early flamethrowers, assault infantry, late game off maps, or a mobile artillery piece such as the Priest or Calliope. We think that a strong commander can certainly be made from a combination of such proposals.
Special Support Company – By Aerafield
A good proposal that we feel could make for a very robust commander. While it shares some overlap with the proposals above, we like some of the suggested action items on the selected units/ abilities, and feel it would offer a fresh way to play USF while providing new strategic options.
Wehrmacht
Strategic Tank Reserves – By Smartie
We think Smartie’s proposal is thematically very strong, and has potential for new strategic gameplay for Wehrmacht. The balance theme independently discussed the potential of an “Elite Reserves Doctrine”, based on the well-equipped “Feuerwehr” forces used to strategically fight rear-guard attacks during the retreat on the Eastern Front. There’s no wonder we dig this theme and some of the abilities within it. Were this commander theme to win the vote, we would consider reworking Assault Grenadiers as part of the commander, as it fits thematically, and would benefit other doctrines.
Counterattack Tactics – Various
It was a little bit trickier to pick out similar cohesive proposals for Wehrmacht Commanders, probably due to the number of commanders this army already has. We did however notice trends for an aggressive Wehr doctrine, along with some cool ability suggestions. We propose a counterattack focused doctrine, with abilities such as the following; Assault Grenadiers (improved), Stuka smoke, Heat/ Tungsten shells, Combined Arms, Panzergrenadier Assault Package, Tiger Ace/ King Tiger (improved).
Soviet
Deep Battle Tactics – By kakenman
This proposal by kakenman (post #10) is thematically excellent, and really captures the defining Soviet tactic of the war. Were this doctrine to win the vote, we would consider swapping one or two of the abilities for an Elite “Red Banner” T34/85 command vehicle, and/or an Assault Guards call in. There are also a lot of ML20 docs already in the Soviet Roster. We might swap the ML20 with the B4 and make some adjustments.
Soviet Airborne – By Midnight’s Blade
We really like this proposal by Midnight’s Blade. It offers a new, historically accurate way to play Soviets. The proposal is very strong as stands, but there is also a lot of room to experiment with different implementations. We could additionally/ alternatively look at airdropped Dshka’s, airdropped infantry weapons such as the DP28, or other thematically appropriate abilities.
